Deathwatch Leaked Rules

Recommended Posts

I've been doing some preliminary lists and a few things I noted compared to 7th at 1850 and 2000 pts:

1) Model count is slightly lower as I'm no longer taking allied Tac squads (goodbye Lias)

2) Suprisingly, no footsloggers

3) No storm shields; adding an extra body seems like a better idea

4) Terminators seem to be the best assault unit now. VV's ability is not that great as without SS, you don't want to fall back because you'll just get shot down. Bikes are now comparable in cost and statline to Terminators now, but I don't like Bikes, so this is biased. If they lower SS cost, VV will rise again.

5) I included Assault Veterans, but it's difficult to figure out their best set up. Delivery is easy, but I feel they'd just get slaughtered during their charge and in melee. Being in a Kill Team with Terminators would be ideal however...

6) Kill Teams are not ideal due to the cost I need to pay to transport them. Corvus and LRC are the cheapest choices, but they cheapest option is Crovus at 240 pts. I can get 3 Razorbacks for that price. Footslogging 5" with the Term will just get them killed.

7) Frag Cannons are hard to justify anymore. At +5 points, a nerf on the flamer profile, and the solid shell being underwhelming, 30 pts is tough to swallow. I try my best to include them if possible, but not feeling them as we have what i consider to be better options for a lot less. Will need to playtest them.

8) PA Captains are now pretty damn good. You can get cheap Captains for less than 100 points a piece and pepper them around. I also don't believe anything stops a non-Term Captain from taking a Relic Blade either.

9) We still lack range...so I included a Predator. yes.gif (my one non-DW model that will be painted in DW colours)

Cool, as long as your play group is cool with the non-DW units. Your kill teams can still take razorbacks and rhinos, you just can't take termies/bikers/VV with them (8th edition). Every unit will have a dedicated transport option. A couple naked blackstars still wouldn't be an awful choice to drop off troops. I'm still struggling with the landraider.

Still excited to see the new imperial armor book from FW!

Should be fine imo as they still share the IMPERIUM keyword despite the Predator not being part of the Deathwatch.

Ya I suppose you could be right on the imperium army thing, but you wouldn't get special issue ammunition due to it being a DW army special rule. Really need to get a hold of this book so I can confirm these things!

Don't we all!  I think with just these leaks and very little from the core rulebook we're still missing quite a bit of the picture.

I guess technically you can, as you "replace" your storm bolter to get a Cyclone and the storm bolter back again (from the heavy weapons list). Then you can trade away the new storm bolter and your power fist for TH/SS.

No. Otherwise the new bolter and shotgun combo will be the bolter and infinite bolt pistols and Deathwatch veterans would be literally invincible as they gun down warlord titans at 12".

Swap a bolter for a bolter and a pistol is in the list. If you can go back to the list to swap out more stuff then there would be literally nothing stopping you from keeping swapping that bolter out for more bolter and pistol combos while keeping all the pistols.

I don't know if someone notice but if you have a vanguard and a biker in a squad, you can fall back, then shoot, then charge in again... brutal !

Yup!  And Heroic Intervention means if you keep DW units with Blackshields within close proximity to each other, they'll be able to pile in together if one unit gets charged (as well as nearby characters).  DW Kill Teams with intelligent builds will be some of the most flexible units in the game, pound for pound.

So I can't find the entry, what does an auspex do in 8th?

At this point, it seems to make "booping" noises and that's about it.

Of note, Mechanicus still have the Omnispex: "Enemy units do not receive the benefit to the saving throws against attacks by a unit that included a model with an omnispex."

PRAISE THE OMNISSIAH!  :)

Definitely seems to be a case of the Cult Mechanicus keeping the shiny stuff for themselves, though.  :P

I think the storm shields is a typo, especially considering that the augury is a guaranteed buy at 5 points for the corvus.

Also tried out the corvus, lots of fire power and it is really good at canceling out the moving and firing heavy weapons penalties.  It is also pretty darn durable.

I could see rhinos being used to eat overwatch on multiple units.  Remember it just says you have to make it into range of your target.  You dont actually have to move in a straight line or even not pivot.  You can easily combi charge with single models now.

I'm incredibly excited for the Corvus to be worth taking.  Probably more than anything else in the DW Index.  :)
