My templars are joining the Indomitus Crusade.

Recommended Posts

I'm brand new to the hobby. Haven't even finished painting my army. But I chose Black Templars before 8th was even announced. I've modeled 2 or 3 crusader squads and some termies and just started painting. THis is the first thing I've ever painted and I'm not really happy with it. But I'll get better with practice. Enjoy!

Welcome to the Eternal Crusade ChaplainMatthias, you're off to a good start. The Terminators are unmistakably Templars. The kit bash Chaplian is sweet. But you know what ,I'm loving the bases, subtle and simple yet very nice. Especially the bare headed Terminators base.

Thanks I saw the technique on I think spikey bits youtube channel? I cant remember exactly. I just cut up the box for my super glue to make bricks. The aquila was from my rhino kit.

Your painting looks similar to mine when I started. GW tutorials helped me a lot. Just looking at your guys now they're definitely solid work, but I would go the extra mile with washes. Sinks into the cracks for shading and gives it a nice texture (looking at tabards, hair, and skin). Building up colors helps immensely. I've always based in black so I have to. Base, dark red, lighter red, wash. Black, medium gray, white. And so on. Makes colors more vibrant and I'm the case of white (which running BT you'll do a lot of) the less coats of white the better otherwise it'll get chunky. A lot of people go with black paint and highlights and I hate doing that, so I go with mechanicus gray with two black washes to get a matte effect. Seems to highlight itself while looking dusty and dirty. But all in all you're off to a great start, and I love the kitbashes.

Great tips! I'm starting my BP/CS crusaders this weekend. I'll try that technique

Welcome to the Eternal Crusade, Brother!

I wish my first models would have been anywhere near what you got there. I didn't even scrape away moldlines... silly me. Keep improving step by step, get ideas from other crusade threads around here or ask away! You're definitely up for a good start.

You came to the right place, this is one of - if not the - most friendly yet ZEALOUS places on the internet, the BT subforum especially!
