CrimsonGuard
Noob question here (I have yet to play my first game). Is there a difference between both types of units or do they work exactly the same? Bartali
In the way that their jump packs work ? Both the same. Both can 'deep strike' 9" away from models, can move over terrain, assault flyers and shoot after falling back. Inceptors are generally more shooty than other BA jump units though. vahouth
Inceptors squad's strength is DS and shoot. They also have a 1/6 chance to dish out mortal wounds on the charge, but since the models are so expensive, I don't see how feasible it would be to field more than 3 models. Really now, do they worth it at 75 points per pop? I don't think so. Helblasters are waaaay better IMHO. Maybe the only Primaris unit worth taking so far. Leonaides
As a comparison, how do the points stack up compared to a couple of landspeeders with bolter/assault cannon or bolter attack bikes compared to the primaris guys? Just wondering if they should be compared by role rather than against cc dedicated assault troops? Blindhamster
They can't be compared to assault marines as their roles are so different. As a mobile fire support unit they're pretty cool, and the background for them is actually awesome (first scene with primaris in dark imperium is a squad of them deep striking straight from a cruiser in orbit - awesome!) Arkhanist
Well, you buy em for drop dakka. The closest equivalent I can think of is a 6 man devastator squad in a pod. So that gets you 6W, 4 heavy bolters plus a reshot from the cherub = 15 heavy bolter shots turn 1 and a sgt storm bolter; the heavy bolters hitting on 4's due to moving. That comes to 228 points. Inceptors have the same 6 wounds, and 6 assault bolters - assault 3, 18" range. So you're now firing 18 heavy bolter rounds per round, at 3+. You've got a higher move (10"), can move and advance and still fire at 4+, and fall back from combat and fire at full effect (fly), though you don't have the range of a heavy bolter. That's 225 points. For BA of course, you've got the baal predator @ 162 with 6 heavy bolter shots and 12 asscan shots - but that's not available to anybody else, can't deep strike onto an objective, nor hide in cover as easily.
