RedFox
I am working on some true scale (kinda) MkIII space marines and was wondering what size of plasticard tube would fit the upper legs? Thinking 4 or 5 mm... Thanks. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/334392-plasticard-tube-size-for-legs/ Share on other sites
Grotsmasha
How exactly are you intending on using the tube? Is it to sculpt over, or as a gap spacer to lengthen the legs? Brother-Chaplain Kage
I'm thinking it's for a gap space and would suggest not using plastic tubing for that, but solid sheet plastic. RedFox
Yes it's for gap space, and I'm thinking of a rod instead of a tube. I'll fill and blend with green stuff. I can already make some with just GS but I want plasticard to save time and GS. Subtle Discord
Why not save yourself a step and avoid greenstuff completely; add a shim of sheet plastic, but cut it down to a little large then the leg diameter, glue it in place and then simple file it back excess material to the original surface. Results will be seamless, and it doesn't matter how clean the starting shape is as long as it's reasonably close to the leg form. Thing with rod is that you'll need to slice each disk off to a rather exact thickness, and still need to contend with doing some kind of final shaping to get the shim seamless. With sheet as the starting material, it's all the same thickness, but you just have to shape it some. But even with rod you'll need to shape it, so you're not saving much effort. Grotsmasha
2mm is the size that most use for a single spacer in the thighs. If you're going to do 2 spacers, 1 above and 1 below the knee, then I'd use 1.5mm spacers. Ovidius Incertus
Sheet and not rod. Sheet will always be flat on both sides. Rod is only as straight as your cuts, and getting both edges perfectly parallel is perhaps unlikely. Agree with the oversized sheet and trim the excess, but probably gap filling with GS or Tamiya White putty or similar may still be necessary.
