Karinon
You can get 3x Macharius hulls for the price of 2x baneblade hulls. Not sure if this is worth it though, as they appear to be a lot less effective. Still you can fill a superheavy detachment for about 1100pts rather than 1600pts. Gen.Steiner
I think the Macharius is probably a good shout if you use the ridiculous Vulcan mega-bolter option. Mitchverr
Just curious, what are peoples thoughts on the gorgon, I dont have the main rulebook yet (i keep forgetting to buy it) so i am not 100% sure on how transports work, but I was thinking it might be a fun way to roll my kriegers around now, as the "open topped" problem of before is now gone? Â Was thinking of filling it with some combination of grenadiers, regulars or heavy weapons, 5-10 squads (min or max size) grenadiers popping out the thing in the enemies face sounds very fun and fluffy. Gen.Steiner
I think 10 five-man Grenadier squads with flamers and heavy flamers leaping out of a Gorgon to burninate everything in front of them is a sound and legitimate tactic. Chaplain Gunzhard
I'm in a building frenzy right now, and I'm thinking how to plot out my super heavy. All last edition I wanted the StormLord despite not having any IG infantry and I kinda still do ...but: Â The Vulcan mega-bolter only wounds MEQ on a 3+ now instead of 2+... so I'm not sure it's really worth those points. Â I'm a little afraid of that magnet tutorial but I guess that's the best way to go at this point. KhorneHunter57x
Do you feel that having a dedicated Enginseer on a Baneblade/Variant is worth it? Yes. It's a handful of points to pay to have the potential of bumping your expensive tank's accuracy back up to a 4+ or 5+ after it's taken damage, or to help it survive just a little longer. Â Even one or two wounds healed can be the difference between your Baneblade dying and living another turn, or forcing your opponent to spend another unit to kill an almost-dead Baneblade. Galron
I played against a shadowsword last weekend with my Alpha Legion for the Relic mission. It killed my Sicarian in two turns and proceeded to shoot squads after that. Against the tank it did a weak 7 damage hit on the first shot and did massive damage the next round killing it. But against troops it suffered. It fired at a 10 man havoc squad in cover and killed 2 dudes. The next round it killed a single terminator from the squad sitting on the Relic. But charging it was a stone b****h wiping the 6 dudes from a raptor squad. So, great vs tanks, not so hot vs troops unless they charge it. Gen.Steiner
Because I had the points spare with my main Guard army, I have decided to fit in a bare-bones Banesword. I'll probably magnetise it so that, if necessary, I can up-gun it when the points inevitably drop again with the release of the next Guard Codex. That'll be getting done in October for my birthday I think.Any ideas on what sort of targets are best for the Quake Cannon? I like that any wounding hit does 3-6 damage. Pretty nasty stuff. DarthWaffle
I'm thinking about grabbing a baneblade, saw a Stormsword for cheap and I think it might look good in my army. Chaplain Gunzhard
One thing I've been thinking about regarding the new Wound chart... if you play against mostly MEQ (or Toughness 4), there's no difference between Str-5 weapons and Str-7... they all wound on 3+ now. Â I'm sure you've all already figured this out, but it's worth mentioning if not because it does make paying more points for some extra Strength wasteful in certain cases. Mitchverr
Whats peoples thoughts on the marauder destroyer right now? its like 400 points or so give or take with  12 autocannon shots 12 assault cannon shots 6 h.bolter shots 8 hunter killer missiles  per turn.  IIRC in 8th we dont have to worry about firing arcs anymore right? Meaning this things putting out alot of pain and suffering a turn? duz_
Yup if you can draw line of sight from the far rear corner of a tank tread you can shoot everything at it! :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/334411-imperial-guard-super-heavies-in-8th/page/2/#findComment-4813714 Share on other sites
WarriorFish
It may feel odd, but it speeds up shooting which as a Guard player with a super heavy you will probably appreciate that bit more ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/334411-imperial-guard-super-heavies-in-8th/page/2/#findComment-4813732 Share on other sites

Minsc
My Stormlord was feeling lonely, so I just ordered a Macharius Heavy Tank, a Valdor Tank Hunter and a Malcador Infernus* (*not titanic, I know) from Forgeworld. Â Once the angst dissipates and my wallet stops bleeding, I might appreciate the purchase and start thinking about what to do with the damn things. Gen.Steiner
The Macharius Vulcan is a lovely tank, I just wish it had bow heavy bolters instead of bow heavy stubbers. 1126PLL
What would people think is the best all rounder ? Â I am not sure if this is still relevant, but the best all-rounder in my opinion is the Stormhammer from Forge World. My tests with 3-vehicle companies have all been pretty successful, but the Stormhammer is cheap and still quite terrifying. Â Also, hi everyone! It's Unit1126PLL from Dakkadakka, I'm quoted on the first page! ^.^ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/334411-imperial-guard-super-heavies-in-8th/page/2/#findComment-4826529 Share on other sites
Repentless
For a very long time I have been thinking about buying 3 super heavies to make a DKOK army. I even went as far as logging in to my Forgeworld account, but still i have not ordered anything. Â But I would really like to hear if a Super Heavy Detachment is worth trying to build ? 3 big tanks from a modelling point of view is of course fantastic and I would love to build and paint them. Â But of course some of joy from playing disappears if a Super Heavy Detachment is an auto loose. Â So let me har what you think of a Super Heavy Detachment, and which combination. Â Thanks a lot. WarriorFish
I think it'd be cool, a lot of fun but also quite lopsided. You'll need more than the SH detachment to make a good list, even if it's just loading up on infantry as an escort (would be a good theme though). Otherwise it might make for one sided games as you either blast your opponent to smithereens or get mobbed by deep striking and the like.
