Inspired by Morticon’s post in the BA forum, herein lies a quick reference for all of you to see which characters you want to take for what job.

All bubbles/auras are for UNITS within 6” unless otherwise noted.

Also remember, as per 8th ed. aura rules, these affect the model itself too, unless otherwise noted.

 

Generic

Chaos Lord (on foot, in TDA, on bike)

Lord of Chaos – LEGION units reroll hit rolls of 1.

 

Chaos Lord on Juggernaut

Lord of Chaos – KHORNE LEGION units reroll hit rolls of 1.

<DAEMON> Gains the keyword (and thus can be affected by Chaos Daemon aura effects e.g. +1S from Herald).

 

Chaos Lord on Disc

Lord of Chaos – TZEENTCH LEGION units reroll hit rolls of 1.

Icon of Despair - -1 LD to enemies within 3".

Fearsome Visage - enemy units within 1" add +1 to their morale roll.

Typhus

Nurgle’s Gift – All DEATHGUARD models within 7” have an aura of plague. Each enemy unit within 1” suffers a mortal wound on a 4+ roll of 1D6 at the start of your turn.

Host of the Destroyer Hive – POXWALKERS within 7” get+1S and +1T.

 

Lord of Contagion

Nurgle’s Gift – All DEATHGUARD models within 7” have an aura of plague. Each enemy unit within 1” suffers a mortal wound on a 4+ roll of 1D6 at the start of your turn.

 

Noxious Blightbringer

Tocsin of Misery - -1Ld for enemy units within 7” (Psykers -2Ld). DEATHGUARD within 7” roll 2D6 to advance and take the higher result.

 

Lucius

Lord of Slaanesh – reroll hit rolls of 1 for EMPEROR’s CHILDREN.

 

 

Chaos Daemons

Be’Lakor

Lord of Torment – Enemy -1Ld within 12”.

Prince of Chaos - reroll hit rolls of 1 for DAEMON units (Warp Talons, Heldrake... :wink: )

 

Skarbrand

Rage Embodied – all units within 8” do not take Morale tests, cannot fall back and get +1 attack.

 

Skulltaker

Locus of Decapitation - +1 to hit for friendly BLOODLETTER units within 8”.

 

[All Greater Daemons] – Blood Thirsters, Great Unclean Ones, Keepers of Secrets, Lords of Change

Greater Daemon – friendly KHORNE DAEMON units make use this daemon’s Ld for Morale tests.

 

[All Heralds]

Herald of [GOD] - +1S for friendly [GOD] DAEMON units.

 

The Changeling

Locus of Transmogrification – enemy attacks against friendly TZEENTCH DAEMON units within 9” suffer a -1 to hit.

 

The Masque

Locus of Beguilement – opponent must -1 from hit rolls targeting DAEMONETTE units within 6” in the Fight Phase.

The Eternal Dance – At the beginning of the Fight Phase choose an enemy unit within 1”. For the rest of the phase +1 to all to hit rolls vs that unit.

 

Fiends of Slaanesh

Disruptive Song – Enemy PSYKERs within 12” subtract 1 from Psychic tests.

Soporific Musk – Enemy units within 1” cannot Fall Back (unless they can FLY).

(CD) Daemon Prince

Prince of Chaos – [sAME GOD] DAEMON units reroll hit rolls of 1.

It does not appear that our CSM daemons (Warp Talons, Heldrakes, etc.) can be affected by CD character auras (e.g. a Bloodthirster of Insensate Rage’s Greater Daemon Ld aura) that require the keywords DAEMON and one of the four god:

for example Khornate Warp Talons have the Keyword `Daemon` and `Khorne Mark of Chaos` but not `Khorne`.

Should this be changed/cleared up, I’ll edit the post.

On page 10 of index chaos under <Mark of chaos> any unit with the keyword <mark of chaos> must nominate the appropriate keyword being Tzeentch, Slaanesh, Nurgle, Khorne. So the keyword becomes "Khorne" not "Mark of Khorne" so a unit in the Heretic Astartes list with both "demon" and "khorne" would benefit from the bloodthirster aura.

If a Heretic Astartes datasheet does not specify which Mark of Chaos a unit has, it will have the <Mark of Chaos> keyword. When you include such a unit in your army, you must nominate which Mark of Chaos the unit has. Then you simply replace the <Mark of Chaos> keyword in every instance on that units datasheet with one of the following: Khorne, Tzeentch, Nurgle, or Slaanesh. Note that psykers cannot have the Khorne keyword.

It looks like there is no difference. I think marked Warp Talons would gain +1S from a herald.

Chaos Lords that take Daemonic Mounts gain the Daemon Keyword so they aura would effect the their patrons daemons and vise versa. So for example a Slaanesh Lord on a Steed grants Seekers re-rolls of 1, while the Herald grants him +1 strength.
I don't think so unfortunately , I'v just only seen the Palanquin lord but his ability specifically targets Nurgle <Legion> models so normal daemons wouldn't be affected only daemon CSM units that shared the same legion keyword

Edit: yeah both the steed, disc and jugger lords are the same as well

Just re-read the entry your are correct the Chaos Lord doesn't effect daemons; but can be effected by daemon auras that target "[GOD]  DAEMON".

I have been looking at various daemon combos, and one I plan on using is this;

A Thousand Sons focused list with a changeling added in.  The Changeling is fairly cheap for what you are getting and is not bad given the correct circumstance (dueling an HQ on the charge)

 

The Locus of Transmogrifcation is somewhat insane given the Thousand Sons list, requires "Tzeentch Daemon" to activate and the list of things this encompasses within the chaos marine range is rather large.

 

Warp talons, All daemon engines (Defiler, mauler/forge fiend, Heldrake), Sorcerers on Discs, Daemon princes, Possessed, and an even bigger point; Magnus the Red.

I plan on building a Rubric focused list that will have the changeling, Magnus, and a couple of Daemon engines / daemon prince, 1-2 sorcerers on Disc behind the line of Rubricae. The Rubricae will benefit from Magnus / Sorcerers re-roll invuls of a 1 and re-rolls to hit from the prince/Magnus.

Magnus and the engines (along with any exposed sorcerer/daemon prince) will highly benefit from that lovely -1 to hit anything targeting them. (Making the Dakkafiends ludicrously hard to kill IMO)  Hide behind the line, and of course anyone who engages the rubricae will get exactly 1 turn of swinging before the flyers jump over the line and proceed to dig out the dust bunnies. It of course also benefits magnus, making him even MORE difficult to kill then he already is while supporting the army.

At least in theory this is what I would like to run, it looks like a cool list, has some unique overlapping buffs, It may end up being decent on the table....I shall make it a point to find out soon!   Opinions and Criticisms welcome!
