Imperium faction armies

As of right now, the only downside is that some of the juicy units are really expensive, and it gets tough deciding what to take :P Also, a lot of abilities will only affect small portions of your army. However, as time goes on, they'll be introducing things that reward you for only picking from one faction. Theoretically, it'll be an actual decision at that point.

They've announced that different factions get different stratagems, which you can only benefit from if your whole detachment (perhaps even army) is of that faction.

So imperium might get one stratagem, but adeptus Astartes get an extra one, and the (let's say) ultramlines also get an extra one - if you have an inquisitor lead these guys, you'll only benefit from the imperial one; if Dante leads them, you'll also get the Astartes faction stratagem; and so on

Yes, it’s possible. The downside is you will not get as many buffs or army wide abilities as you will by choosing a single faction.

For example, on page 63 of Imperial Index Vol 2, Adeptus Mechanicus, several units have ‘Canticles of the Omnissiah’, which gives a bonus, but it then states ‘If you have a battle-forged army, units only receive the bonus if every model in their Detachment has this ability’.

Another example, on page 10 of Imperial Index Vol 2, Astra Militarum, several units have a ‘Voice of Command’ ability, which will issue orders but only to infantry units in range with the same <regiment> keyword. So, no sharing of this ability with different imperial factions in the same army.

So, a multi-faction Imperium army is possible but you may miss out on certain key abilities or bonuses.

But yes, as above, actual codexes will reveal more such as army specific stratagems.
