viking/norse runes: some help

Recommended Posts

First, go to Google Translate. Select English for the left panel (the one you type into), and Icelandic for the right panel (Icelandic being so close to Old Norse they're almost indistinguishable). Type in your phrase/words in the English panel.

Next, convert the words/phrases in Icelandic to the Elder Futhark runes. There were three or four variations (Danish, Anglo-Saxon, etc.) but each is close enough to the others that you'll be fine.

Well, I tried providing a link but I couldn't seem to get it to save so....https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Runes

About half way down there is a section on the Runes themselves which gives some translations you can work from of various different stages of rune-script. This is probably the simplest route to go down simply translate the letters/runes from your native language or choice and there you go!

If however you are after authentic old-Norse/Swedish/Danish/English language words and phrases you might have to dig a little deeper.

Runic translation of historical runes and writing in runes is not quite a strict hard science, per se, and are often open to various interpretations and multiple translations. I will post two links that will prove informative and should prove rather useful where this subject is concerned. The first link http://www.vikingrune.com/write-in-futhark-runes-old-norse-guide/ explains how runic script and translation can be open to interpretation, while the second, http://www.vikingrune.com/rune-converter/ has a small program for writing basic runic script. Many Space Wolf runes are not real runes from any of the futharks so you can always make your own as well. I hope this is not too late for your purposes. May the Gods show you favor and keep you safe! Cheers!!

If I wanted a phrase in runewords on murderfang, and want to do it right.

anyone have any tools, websites to do this?

Are you looking for something like a phrase that is authentic and historical, or are you just trying to write something using runes? There is a 6 rune phrase that is really the only runic script that is known as a formula meant to bring good fortune and good luck, without a doubt. It is authentic and very easy to write. In English letters, transferable into the Futhark runes posted above, and written as ALU ULA. This phrase just needs to be transferred over and can be verified using Google.

here is a website I used to do some research at some point

You can also draw on a number of other languages too when deciding what phrases you want to use.  The language of Fenris just as much rooted in Russian, the Baltic languages, and a huge amount of Gothic (aka Latin) as it is in Nordic and Germanic languages.  You can mix and match to your heart's delight in the exact words you choose.
