I have problem with starting up my new death guard, namely picking up paint scheme. I'm not huge fan of official paint scheme, as it will be seen everywhere. And it's kinda too bright for me, too clean.

so far my ideas are:

1.HH paint job, but I don't want to paint them that way.

2. Base them with Dw forest then wash with agrax and nurgling green

3. Somehow paint them as cleaved warband. Have no idea about which paints to use, but concept is... tempting.

I'm newbie into hobby, and I could only afford some base paints, shades and technicals, and I doubt I can get enough money out of my budget to go for layers right now.

If you're not doing bright, crisp edge highlights on every surface, you can still use similar colours to the GW 40k scheme (the 'official' DG colours) and get a nice result. I'd say option 2 then, but I'm a sucker for tradition.

In the event you decide to go for option 3, some kind of bone colour(s) with thinned down browns and greens painted as if they are oozing out of the recesses is what you want.

For now I try DW forest + balthasar gold on one test marine. The question however is: how to paint his skin?
