Wolf_Lord_Hardrada
Hello filthy xenos scum :) I'm just wondering if any of you could appraise me of the current rules for how Drones (in particular Shield Drones) work for protecting units/Characters. I'm trying to decide if its work slinging some scout snipers into a list for buff-denial purposes but I'm not sure how target selection with sniper rifles will work with the shield drones. Has anyone had a chance to look over/play this out yet? Many thanks! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/335305-shield-drone-rules/ Share on other sites
Honda
And they would answer your question because...? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/335305-shield-drone-rules/#findComment-4791152 Share on other sites
Wolf_Lord_Hardrada
Is there a reason not to? I mean, its a rules question as much as anything else. Its not like I'm asking the best way to beat Fish of Fury. Edit: Expansion/Clarity. Commander Dawnstar
Essentially you're allowed to select targets as per the Sniper Rifle's rules, but the Tau player has the option to shift any wounds caused to the target unit onto any Drones within 3" of it. You might be able to hit the character but you wouldn't be able to take wounds off them until all of their Drone escorts had been downed. Wolf_Lord_Hardrada
That's what I thought it might be, cheers Brightstar. I kinda figured that (shield) drones that don't shield would be pointless! jeffersonian000
Just a small point of efficiency, but Gun Drones are more pojbt efficient than Shield Drones as they do the same thing AND shoot 4 S5 shots. Just daying. SJ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/335305-shield-drone-rules/#findComment-4793271 Share on other sites

Just daying. SJ A note to your note (:P), shield drones still get their ++ save as you shunt the wounds, not mortal wounds, to the drones. Interesting distinction because I've been reading the Savior protocols like the Bodyguard rules, and they are totally distinct and separate. So if you need a ++ save, I'd go for the drones, especially on larger suits that the shield generator is like 40 points. jeffersonian000
Mortal wounds ignore invul saves, though. Either way, Gun Drones are ablative wounds that shoot back. Sure, Shield Drones have a better survival chance, but only Shielded Missile Drones shoot back.
