Sculder
hello all longtime lurker, went to a friend today to watch a match of 8th edition and the following came up: shooting at a unit of Tau suits with some drones which toughness do you use to calculate everything? Majority toughness like before or the toughness of the suits since they were the parent unit? we were unable to find something in the rulebook about this or we must have completely missed it.... any help is appreciated Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/335385-different-toughness-in-a-unit/ Share on other sites
TheWolfLord
Drones are a separate unit now. You can pass on damage but the Drones themselves are not the target unit so there is no mixed toughness Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/335385-different-toughness-in-a-unit/#findComment-4792306 Share on other sites
Seahawk
There *should* be no instance where there is a mixed toughness anymore. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/335385-different-toughness-in-a-unit/#findComment-4792320 Share on other sites
Sculder
he bought the drones as part of a crisis suit unit. so they are counted as separate units then? TheWolfLord
he bought the drones as part of a crisis suit unit. so they are counted as separate units then? Yes, every entry in the Tau Index explains that Drones are setup in coherence with the unit they came with but from that point act as a separate unit. Gentlemanloser
I'm sure there is a rule in the core rules about mixed Toughness units. IIRC, it's still Majority Toughness. I just looked in the shooting and fight sections. No such rule to be found. Just weapon S vs target T. Gentlemanloser
Same. But I distinctly remember reading it somewhere recently. Checked the developers Comments and I couldn't see it there either. Interrogator-Chaplain Ezra
Strange oversight. Worth mentioning to the FAQ team. While we wait, I'd suggest just using majority Toughness. Elios Harg
There is one: In Deathwatch Kill Teams, they specifically state that they can have mixed Toughness and how to handle it, if there is a majority, then you use majority toughness. If there is no majority, then the defender gets to choose. That is the only instance, that I know of, of mixed T and the unit's rules address it. Gentlemanloser
Ah ha! Knew i saw it somewhere! Because it's not a wide spread thing. I bet they class it as a unit 'ability' and have the rules on appropriate datasheets.
