Today something special came in the mail, a project I've long contemplated and am finally starting, a Warhound Titan of the Legio Sirius, ally detachment for my Space Wolves army!

I've cleaned up the primary weapons and most of the torso/arms. The leg parts are largely still on the sprues but I'll probably throw everything into a warm soapy water bath next and get the rest of the mold release agent off before assembling the legs. I'm seriously considering magnetizing the cockpit cover, back carapace and weapon servitor hatches to allow access to the interior and thus paint and show off the interior.

Now obviously I'm not really going to say this Titan is piloted by Space Wolves, it's going to be from the Legio Sirius, a Titan Legion detailed in the Priests of Mars series that shares similarities with the Space Wolves (ie space vikings). Some basic details of the Legio are as follows:

Name: Legio Sirius (Low Gothic: Scorcher)

Homeworld: Sinister

Colors: Grey, gold and blue.

Heraldry: Unknown

Legio Fortress: The Oldblood Fortress atop the Black and Silver Mountain, lair of the Canidae.

There is not an existing image of the Legio heraldry or paint scheme or even a description of the heraldry in the books so I'm going to have to be inventive here. I'm thinking of doing the main body of the armor plates in a light grey, lighter than my House Cenwulf Knight Titans who use Mechanicus Standard. Then I'm thinking a nice dark Kantor Blue and solid yellow for the "gold" and blue of the heraldry with gold armor trim and ornamentation. For the Legio Heraldry I'm thinking a mountain peak in black with silver highlights around crags and peak with a white wolf-skull over the mountain.

So hopefully I'll get some more pics up over the next couple of days as I get this guy built and started the painting. I'm aiming for having this thing finished by next saturday, maybe building and painting a Titan in a week is unrealistic but I'm gonna try!

As always c&c welcome!

May the Allfather lead you Knife, guide your Glue and be with your Brushes!

Thanks!

So cleaning and despruing? took longer than anticipated but I've finally started assembly this afternoon and boy this thing is taking a lot of glue. I started with three tubes and I'm down to the last one after just one leg, gonna have to go and get more!

I'm hoping to get the second leg and the waist done by the end of the day, then I think it'll be time for everything to get primed/basecoated. Gonna likely leave the torso mostly unassembled for painting but I haven't yet decided if I want to paint the interior or not. It'll save a lot of time and effort if I don't bother and frankly I'm not sure it's worth it to do so, apart from the occasional "oooh, aaaah, lookit!" show off at the hobby shop the interior just doesn't matter as much.

What do you guys think, should I finish the interior or close it all up?

Finish of course! I assume that it's not like you have two further Titans waiting to be built. So this is a more or less "this is the first and for a while also the last" situation. Do it right. Plus: What I have seen from the Photos, the Interior looks really nice and worth painting, and there aren't so many minis with a "Inside". (Which brings me to the Idea of a Dreadnough with removeable front plate … but that's a different thing).

And: Ten thousand thundering typhoons … this is a big thing! :biggrin.:

And: Who or what is this guy lying around in the background in the left part of the Photograph?

I reaaaaallly don't want to be bothered with the interior but I also feel that if I don't I'll regret it... gah the pain!

And: Yes it is big, even bigger than I was expecting, the legs by themselves are nearly as tall as my Knight Titans!

gallery_24192_13370_947031.jpg

And 2: That little guy is a Custodes Contemptor Achilles Dreadnought, now that I have a base for him I should probably get him painted up but the arrival of the Warhound has kind of thrown all other projects on hold. I also got a Forgeworld Space Wolf MK IV and Space Wolf Contemptor Dreadnoughts and I'm planning on adding the plastic kit to that and with some bits bashing turning out three Dreadnoughts, a counts-as Bjorn with the Contemptor with helfrost cannon and trueclaw, a murderfang with the MK IV with claws, and the MK V with great frost axe and blizzard shield.

Plus: What I wanted to wirte in the previous reply, but forgot: It's of couuuurse very, very, very easy for me to say "Paint the Interior!", because I don't have to do it. :biggrin.:

Very nice Knight by the way. Is his main Armour in a "standard" 30kish Grey-Tone? It seems a good bit lighter to me.

And: I sooo much like the Seahorse-Wolf-Designs of the Space Wolves Legion Transfer Sheet. I have no Idea, what the Designers had in Mind, when they made that, but it look great on the Knight!

The knight's armor is Mechanicus standard grey, I think I'm going to go even lighter on the Warhound combined with the secondary colors of blue and gold(en yellow I think). I'm contemplating painting the shin guards and vent armor dark blue, like a highlighted kantor blue and instead of doing checks or bars in the second accent color I think I might do some knotwork designs like those on the 30k space wolf transfer sheet in the golden yellow on the blue and maybe some blue ones on the grey armor as well.

And yea it is easy to say "do it" when you aren't doing it but even as the one doing it and reaaaally not wanting to I think I'm going to have to just bite the bullet and do it, if not I'll just be kicking myself forever and a friend did provide some magnets so I think that's happening. If I can get the interior spaces primed tomorrow afternoon I can quickly paint them up in the evening and then get to building the torso.

As for the 30k transfers for the space wolves I also love the designs on that sheet, soooooo awesome and I absolutely plan to copy them for a number of projects going forward, especially this one as the warhound offers lots of space for freehand paint details.

I can only support going even lighter with the greys. I just recently stumbled across this guys Space Wolves in the classic 2nd Edition Style and instantly fell in love with it, again. I just can't deny that I grew up with the 2nd Edition style … so … although I assume, that you'r not going with the bright reds and yellows, I still think that lighter grey suits the Wolves and their Allies very well.

And, regarding the Interior: Glueing a Wolf Skin in there somewhere, even if it's only a small one might add some fun … :happy.:

I dunno if I have a spare wolf skin or if there's room but it's something to consider.

That said progress has been slow, I was out of town most of last week and will be again this weekend and haven't had much painting time. Also finishing the interior required leaving the torso unassembled and has really slowed getting this thing on the tabletop. However I'm finally finished with the main body details (though I have yet to start on the cockpit) and plan on getting the torso glued together in the morning. Here's the progress:

Gosh it's been a month already, sheesh I didn't want this project to drag on this long. But slowly I've been making progress. All of the planned magnets have been worked in to attach the head carapace, back carapace and waist. Everything has been primed and base-coated dark silver at the very least, the main body interior has been painted and finally assembled and now I need to kick myself to get on with painting and assembling the bits in the head cockpit which I can then glue to the main body of the Titan.

After my previous indecision over the option to paint and make accessible the interior of the Titan I now find myself debating about what to do with the energy cables on the outside. Six such cables are necessary with the completed Titan, two for each arm weapon and two that link the head to the chest. I really don't look forward to heating and bending the resin cables into place, I'm not very familiar with such work as it is and it would require a lot of finessing, measuring the lengths once the head and arms are glued in place (which will be a huge pain for the arms with little space to work in!) and then green stuff and glue to get them to stick, and then getting it all painted.

The alternatives would be to A- simply leave all the cables off and do without or B- use something like the bendy-part of bendy straws painted and glued in place. Straws would look alright as approximate cables and be much easier to work into place. Or just like with the interior of the Titan I could just try to rough it out and give a go at applying the proper supplied resin cables as frustrating and difficult as that might be, at least to the head and chest which will likely be a lot easier (and more visible) than the arms.

Anyway all that side this thing is starting to look like an actual Titan: gallery_24192_13370_1297886.jpg

Hopefully I'll have some more updates soon and can get this guy done before another month flies by!

Not familiar with the model, but is it possible to drill (using a pin vice) a small hole where the cable attaches? This could allow you to glue in one end and get it to good through friction. Then glue in the otger after the first had dried in place.

For heating more focussed areas a hairdryer is pretty good, otherwise a a bowl of recently boiled water will work.

I would advocate using the hairdryer. Keep the titan close to hand and heat the pipes. Test-fit and if it is ff reheat and bend. constantly test fit and when happy stick in place. The down side to using the hairdryer is you have to be careful not to burn your hand

Hot water is also pretty good, just realise that as it cools it will take longer for the resin to become pliable and it does not take long before the water is too cool. Also remember to have something to fish the resin out of the water if you immerse the whole piece and you should be able to touch it almost as soon as it comes out the water, you will have around 10 seconds or so depending on how hot the water was to start bending.

If you feel the resin start to resist, then stop and reheat it or you will risk snapping the resin.

Its something I have had to do plenty of times with my resin kits. Once you've done it a few times, you kinda lose the fear. Looking really good so far, and glad you have done the interior.

Good luck!! :tu:
