Sure why not, if their Chaos God or former Primarch demands it from them they'll likely leave.

The Chaos Gods are continiously looking for new conquests (with the exception of maby Nurgle, doesn't like change etc) to increase their own powers. So staying in one place is actually only a likely option for those who do not follow any Chaos God in particular.

The new edition because of that is also full of narrative oddities. The Soulgrinder for example was introduced to us as a purely Chaos Undivided being that had set it's service to that of the Hellforge and not of other Chaos Gods. Now however that's not even an option.

My moral is that 8th lacks a ton of narrative content, so there is no yes/no, good or bad. We simply don't know where this story is heading. It's very likely GW wants it to be more creative and open, which means restrictions of the old are broken. Especially the latter ripples through the book, to the disgust of some others.

Cheers for the swift response.

So it would be feasible for a warband to conquer an entire planet purely to uncover a powerful daemonic relic/weapon and/or to enslave and sacrifice the population to the gods? Then leave the planet once they have accomplished their task?

A good reason is usually the forces of chaos have fulfilled their goal so leave the system in order to escape aany incoming imperial reinforcements after all some chaos forces operate as a raiding force so they hardly would wamt to get bogged down by a far superior enemy after all sometimes it is better to run and so you can continue to raid another day than stupidly fight overwhelming odds and be destroyed.

Exactly as Plaguecaster said. It is important to note that for each Chaos God these events arnt as drastical or fast as with the other.

For example, followers of Khorne have an intention to do something like this ASAP. By large because Khorne demands it from them and things like suffering arn't really what empowers Khorne. On the other side we have Nurgle who might just let the whole planet rot away slowely, without cure but finding joy in the inhabitants trying to find a cure for his plagues and failing in the process.

Keep in mind that a lot of narrative freedom is given and ultimately you can choose the story for your army. Inhabitants of the Warp don't have to follow any very specific logic.
