I've always used Fairy Power Spray with great results with my sonic cleaner but had heard that the recipe had changed. I refused to believe this and bought a batch and sure enough it is now useless for stripping paint.

So what do other people use? I was wondering about Isopropyl alcohol.

So I'm looking for suggestions for use with a sonic cleaner only (I appreciate the glass jar/Dettol/brake fluid/leave for a week methods). With fairy power spray the paint was gone and the model was brand new in half an hour.

Cheers in advance.

I have had good results with 90+ percent Isopropyl Alcohol. Will fully strip a model to plastic in a sonic cleaner in under 20 minutes. Have yet to try it with resin though, Probably will test with a sprue.

Note: You can reuse Isopropyl Alcohol unlike some other Products

Go here, buy this - http://www.superdrug.com/Superdrug/Superdrug-Nail-Polish-Remover-Acetone-Free-250ml/p/219145 - and then come back and thank me later.

I've got a little Ultrasonic cleaner, and I've used this stuff in it to great effect. In my opinion, it works even better than the old Fairy Power Spray.

Oddly, I've found you get a better result filling a thin plastic container with the nail polish remover, putting that in the Sonic Cleaner, and then putting water in the cleaner. I've got no idea why, but I've done a bunch of testing since Christmas (Dettol, FPS, other stuff), and that seems to be the best method.

Let us know how you get on!

Are we talking plastic or metal models? I'm assuming plastic from the liquids you're talking about (nail polish will melt plastic models if left too long), if so Dettol etc work fine - the sonic cleaner just makes it work better and faster ;)
