I'm building my primaris modelsas ultramarines doing the standard 2nd company color scheme (mac blue, calgar highlights, gold trim) and trying to decide on accent colors for the power cables in the armor, power weapons, etc.

In my heresey world eaters i used red, and i was thinking i'd do that again since red goes with blue pretty nicely, but i did green eye lens on these ultramarines, which really pops, so now i'm thinking maybe green for the power cables...

I'm also wondering about colors for the power swords and such...i realllllly like the power lightning thats on the box art, but i've not had great success doing that on my own. I can do basic blends pretty well though, so blue or green or red would work.

Example of my basic blend

What do you guys think?

The world eaters on the picture are very well painted but way to clean and neat for being World eaters, I suggest the following further work on them:

  1. Do small scratches and pitting using either Skavenblight dinge or Rhinox hide. And then on the lower side of the scratches follow the scratch with a steel colour (Vallejo model air steel or any silver in the citadel or other range).
  2. Airbrush a thin layer of gloss varnish thinned 1:1
  3. Do an oilwash with burnt umber or van Dyke brown oil paint thinned down alot (like 10-15 to 1) into the recesses and armour joint
  4. Mask of the bases. Do dust effect using Tamiya flat earth and flat flesh mixed 1:1 and thinned 1:2 (2 parts X20A thinner). Spray this mixture in small, very sparingly thin horizontal streaks along the lower third of the legs. Stop after each streak and evaluate if another streak is needed. Less dust effects look better.
  5. Using an old toothbrush, very sparingly sprinkle Tamiya clear red (better effect if you mix the Tamiya clear red with Tamiya clear smoke 5:1) where you want the blood splatter, you can also use Citadel blood for the blood good, If you want blood effects on the blades and chainswords, then use a fine tipped detail brush and brush them in on the blade.

As for the Ultramarines, I suggest you do the crystal blade power effect with either green or violet, violet makes a great colour for power weapons. I suggest you paint the armour cables/hoses, joints and either dark grey or black and highlighted. if you want a slight colour tint on them you can paint them black and then highlight with P3 coal black which has a sublime green/blue effect.

Oh you know, i hadn't thought about violet for the power weapons, but i think that would be awesome with the blue armor!

I'm doing the joints in black, but i kind of wanted something that popped a little for the smaller power cables on some of the armor pieces.  Maybe i'll do them in violet also to tie into the power weapons.

Thanks for the feedback.

GW always recommends red for these blue and white schemes, like Ultramarines and 30K WE, but I've always found green looks way better. That Tribune relic glaive would look ridiculously good with a lime-ish green blend to near white.
