Attacks and consolidation

Recommended Posts

If I have 2 units charge into a single enemy unit, unit A and unit B.

And say unit A were able to wipe the entire enemy unit themselves. Can unit B then consolidate into another enemy unit that was within 3",and still attack? Or do they lose their attacks because they've already charged?

And IF they do get to attack, do they still get to attack as if they've charged? Or will I need to revert to the normal back and forth sequence?

You first resolve unit A's fight sequence:

- Pile In

- Choose target

- Choose weapon

- Resolve attacks

- Consolidate

You then resolve unit B's fight sequence:

- Pile In

- If in range, choose target

- If in range, choose weapon

- If in range, resolve attacks

- Consolidate

Resolve any other charger's fight sequence

Continue resolving the Fight Phase using back-and-forth combat resolution...

+ Edit: I guess I've played a bit too much AoS recently in anticipation to 8th ed. Eddie Orlock is right, unit B cannot fight.

Under point 3. Choose Targets of the Fight Phase:

Models that charged this turn can only target enemy units that they charged in the previous phase

Can unit B then consolidate into another enemy unit that was within 3",

Yes. Not only can you consolidate, you may be able to pile in at the start of their fight phase selection too. This may be a dubious benefit though.

and still attack?

No. Pg. 182 Under Headin 5. FIGHT PHASE, sub heading 3. Choose Targets, first paragraph, last sentence. Due to unit A's superlative success, unit B is now bereft of eligible targets to beat upon.

Or do they lose their attacks because they've already charged?

A bit of a colloquial way to put it that might lose some nuance. It's not just that they charged, but that some other unit scooped their beats too.
