Born in the early days of the 3rd founding their progenitor gene sire and father was still crusading through the Imperium bringing the Emperor’s Wrath to traitor and heretic alike. The cadre of Marines selected to train and lead this new chapter, were taken from the Excoriators. More notably there were all very senior veterans and all could trace their linieage back to the legion. These were the last survivors of the 24th and 25th companies that not only held the wall during the siege of Terra but also survived the “meat grinder” that tested the metal of the entire Fist Legion at the Iron Cage. The First Paragon: These marines cadre were led by veteran Captain John Boucicaut. Captain Boucicaut would go on to become the first Chapter Master of the Paragons of Dorn. He was a firm believer in the many tenants and teachings of his father; was an extremely charismatic and inspirational leader, well respected amongst all the Sons of Dorn who knew him or served with him. Captain Boucicaut was extremely disciplined and spent many hours not in martial training in the pain glove. He was also quite astute at military tactics and strategy, his attention to martial skill, his prowess in combat, and dedication to his duty would be hard press to match even amongst the most devout of marines. Captain Boucicaut was also a staunch humanist and believed the existence of the space marines was to preserve the imperium’s most precious resource, its people. He was so beyond reproach he was consider for and even trained for a time to be a chaplain. It was his devotion to military stratagem and his desire to lead other marines that changed his path . Captain Boucicaut did not believe in tactical failure. Like his father he believed every contingency could be planned and prepared for and a plan that did not survive first contact with the enemy was a fools plan. As a leader he would accept nor give quarter and retreat or withdraw was never an option. These principles were inculcated and drilled into each and every brother within the chapter. The Paragons to this day claim to have never withdrawn from a battle and it is this belief that has led to the near destruction of the chapter on more than one occasion. Because of this and a history of nearly disastrous losses in numbers while gaining Pyric victories the chapter never commits the full chapter to a conflict and always keeps a full reserve company and well stocked geneseed pool on their home world of Rector. Captain Boucicaut went on to lead the Chapter for another 600 standard Years before he fell. Boucicaut was personally leading a vanguard during the defense of Gommora IV, a growing agricultural world, against the ork Waargh lead by Big Badum Boss Skulz Crusha. The first company was at much less than full strength from a conflict with the Eldar and was in route to their homeworld when the distress call was received. Captain Boucicaut was with the first company and accepted the call for help. He knew the dire situation and that a victory against such a superior force was simply not tactically feasible. They key was to hold the Star-port Alysia in the northern hemisphere to facilitate the escape of the remaining survivors of the populace, Imperial forces and key leaders. Boucicaut however would not accept defeat as the only option, he called for reinforcements from the 3rd and 5th companies and developed a plan that would ultimately lead to the defeat of the Ork Waargh but he knew it would come at the sacrifice of he and the remainder of the 1st company. Realizing all who went down would eventually be lost he ordered that none of the chapter’s terminators or relic equipment, nor any of the dreadnaughts be used. Such resources should not be wasted on a conflict where death was the only outcome for the first wave. He sent detailed plans for the following waves to the Captains of the 3rd and 5th companies and even went as far as to name his successor. (Note the practice of naming the successor to lead the Chapter is still done to this day before every conflict the Chapter Master enters into). With that the remaining brothers of the 1st company made landfall around the Alysia Star-port. Here they held true to their lineage that dated back to the Iron Cage and the Walls of Terra. These marines held the port for 4 months against constant waves of assault by the Ork Waarg causing them serious losses in the process. Just hours before he fell, Boucicaut received vox traffic that the 3rd and 5th companies would arrive within a day. But down to himself and just his honor guard with the next assault being led by the Waarg boss himself, Boucicaut new his end was near, at the main gate to the port is where they would make their final stand. The port had many layers of booby traps set through out much like the Iron cage itself with a self-destruct proximity trap set as the final curtain call. Boucicaut and his men held against this final wave for several hours until they ran out of ammunition and were left to hand to hand combat, they were simply overwhelmed. The Orcs made their way into the star-port losing more and more to orcs to each layer of traps, but once they reached the inner ring of the port the Waarg Boss himself sought to claim its glory, ironically it was his desire for victory to personally claim this site that led to his demise as his very presence set off the self-destruct system. With their boss dead the waarg fell in to disarray and at that moment the 3rd and 5th companies made orbit and in a few short months purged the green skin menace from Gommora IV. Chapter Cult Boucicaut's legacy, in the form of the chapters beliefs have also at times put them at odds with other chapters. The Paragons of Dorn are an extremely stubborn chapter and rarely will yield tactical command to anyone outside of their chapter. The few times they have, they have gone as far to directly disobey the strike force or crusade leadership seeing their tactics and strategy as extremely flawed. The only times in their recorded history that they fully committed and yielded to any and all outside command was when they answered the Last Wall protocol and the defense of Cadia. They fully submitted to the leadership of their progenitor chapter and Guilliman. The chapter has adopted a belief system they refer to loosely as the Cult of Dorn. This is an extreme and dogmatically followed philosophy in martial preparation and planning. The Cult of Dorn also leads them to be far more sympathetic to the human populace and Imperial Guard forces they are often sent to safeguard. These beliefs have even put them at odds with other Sons of Dorn to include the Subjugators and The Hammers of Dorn. Fall of Cadia and the Indominus Crusade: The Paragons of Dorn have only committed their entire chapter minus the reserve training company, twice in their chapters’ history, the Last Wall during the War of the Beast and the fall of Cadia. So many Paragons of Dorn fell in distinguishing themselves in combat and glory during the defense of Cadia, including all but 10 remaining brothers that held the portal while the rest of the Eldar and Imperial forces withdrew that Guilliman himself decreed they would be one of the first chapters reborn with Primaris Marines. The reserve company and 10 survivors of the Fall were all placed in the Primaris upgrade program. While their beliefs and training remain the same they have re-organized the chapter to be more combat effective under their new Chapter Master and one of 10 survivors of Cadia, Chapter Master Marques Gallante. He has since reorganized the chapter into 4 fully equipped assault Battalions with a single reserve training element that served a similar purpose as it predecessor, designed to be the chapters salvation should it ever incur catastrophic losses.
