THUNDERFISTS
Hi all, I'm getting my hands on a Kytan soon and was wondering what people thought of it on the table. How well does it compare to the Lord of Skulls or a similarly loaded out Renegade Knight in 8th? Who would best help out the big fella? Would a Chaos Super Heavy detachment be as scary as it sounds, or completely outclassed by the Imperial equivalents? MoK
I find that my Kytan is a damned good match for an Imperial Knight. Not as good as the Lord of Skulls because it has one less big gun, but it's still good. It looks better than a Knight. I haven't played it in 8th yet, coz I don't have any rules for 8th yet. What power level and points is it now? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/336293-the-kytan-daemon-engine/#findComment-4811367 Share on other sites
Commissar K.
Its slightly worse as a knight because it has less guns and no feet attacks. However its also cheaper. Its a unit between Defiler and Knight basically. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/336293-the-kytan-daemon-engine/#findComment-4811438 Share on other sites
Azekai
I think complimentary things would be stuff that will also draw fire or be impossible to ignore... bloodthirsters come to mind (also rapier batteries. Those things hurt and laser destroyers will shred some knights). Having a sorcerer or flying daemon prince use warptime on the Kytan might also be pretty useful for getting in an early and unexpected charge. Just make sure to go in guns blazing to clear out whatever chaff is screening their heavies. If you get the Kytan into cc with an Imperial super heavy, you should be able to wreck it. That damage is no joke.If the Kytan does get bogged down by a horde of footslogging grunts, you can blaze away with that gatling cannon and clear them out. Kytans do not get to stomp on people, but their 'slash' profile with the cleaver is basically the same thing (15 S8 attacks is gonna smear some fools). Brother Aiwass
Its S10, but yeah. Slightly worse than a knight -in the overall versatility- but can (almost) chop one in half if he manages to charge: Vs castigator knight -Smash: 16,66667 damage -Slash: 8,888888889 damage Next round (in the opponent fight phase) it should kill the knight, being free to move and charge in your next turn (although a bit damaged, between 5-10 wounds less). This is in void, with no other units, shooting, or overwatch taken in account. But for the points and rule of cool, its more than worth it. And is nowhere near a defiler, a unit that he outclasses by far. HeresyBeliever
So last night I played a game which included my twin battle cannon knight. My thoughts behind this load out was a lot of shooting and still the titan feet as a S8 combat weapon. Theory was sound in my head. So in battle my opponent had a large unit of 10 death watch all with heavy hammers which killed it in one turn. What I learnt from this was i really could do with a saving throw in combat which the knight didn't have. So I started to look at the Kytan again (loved the model but always just used my knight) So the BS and WS are always 3+ no matter the drop in wounds with is a big buff against the knight. Each with 1 wound left it can put out 3 x S10 attacks using that 3+ to hit which is much better than the knight. There is less guns on the Kytan however you do not need to back out of combat to shoot it if you are in combat with infantry. Just shoot them or something else and still take them out in combat. The other Plus with the cannon on the Kytan is it is also 8 x S8 shoots rather than relying on luck when it comes to the 2D6 of the battle cannon. The points cost is pretty much the same. Having the 5+ invol save for everything is a nice feeling. It starts with 2 wounds less that the knight but it will regenerate 1 each turn with might just be a game changer. So all in all I have decided to buy one. I plan to swap the knight out for it in my list and see how I get on. Lord_Valorion
The Kytan is such an impressive model...love it. I used it to hunt knights in 7th edition, this was successful. I am curious what he can do in 8th edition. I don´t played a game with the new edition yet, damn responsibilities. Here we have pictures of my guy, the model is so big, it will draw all fire of the world just because he looks so intimidating. Cryptix
Do you guys think that if you use the legs of a Fiend as the upper leg for a knight they'd be about the same size?
