I finally got my hands on Perturabo and with that my attention to 8th has ended. I built a list to capitalize on his absurd reserves shenanigans. It doesn't quite have the punch of a horus list, but then horus can't drop down turn 1 like Perty can. I'll drop him down with the big Tyrant squad and try to swamp my enemy with too many hard threats to compensate for. I'm only sad that I don't have room for my Iron Havocs.

So what are your thoughts? Am I better off without the swarm of terminators? Should I just keep the Tyrants in the backline?

Edited by Warsmith Manat-Yi

30 terminators all showing up on a +2 on turn one, man that's pretty brutal. I'd really maximize on the terminators though, as the list is now they basically only have standard equipment. Some combi plasmas would be a great way to make them far more effective on the turn they show up, and a smattering of power fists in each unit would be ideal. The veterans truthfully seem useless to me with all those terminators on the table, so you can take away from their pts to give the terminators more equipment. Honestly if you want havocs, take them instead of veterans, they'll be note useful than the vets providing your terminators with some backfield support.

I'd probably keep the tyrants deep striking since if they can flank certain vehicles like a Spartan their missiles will be more useful. Really depends on the board though and if you can fit 30 terminators within range of the Damocles, since some games that probably won't be the case.

Yeah I did have a list that ran two regular tactical squads to give me more space for upgrades, but vets with outflank are fantastic under Perty's umbrella. They're there for objective grabbing and being a general nuisance. The missile launchers are less necessary with the Tyrants down though so maybe I'll drop those and pump up the terminators some more.

Well I wouldn't drop the tyrants completely, they are incredibly potent but yeah the terminator squads really need more toys. You don't need to arm every single terminator with a fist and combi plasma, but I'd say half would be ideal.

I love the idea. I really do :smile.: I plan a very simmiliar force myself!

I'd only reconsider the equipment on terminators - add a chainfist or two per unit and some combi-weapons (combi -plasma and -melta - they seem to be perfect for a precise-deepstriking force). If you're worried about AV 14 you could also swap ML on Veterans for meltaguns or add some combi-meltas.

P.s. The veterans seem to occupy Elites choice - though it doesn't matter all in all.

Edited by Dhar'Neth

Yeah I'll likely trim the launchers for meltas since they'll be outflanking anyway. I think I can afford to run two pfists and a chainfist on the sarge that way. That might give me a bit of healthy variance.

That said the cheaper the units the better. I know they'll he targeted hard anyway. That said I have all the components to build it now, so I'll be sure to test it out asap.

Edited by Warsmith Manat-Yi

Here is a modified variant which puts a bit more punch into the termy squads. Still no combi weapons, but the bastards always seem to disappoint me unless you saturate them with combimeltas.

I'm not sure how else to improve the list tbh. I'm not as keen on the lightning as I used to be, but I have the model so :cuss it.

i like it... perhaps dropping the termis to 8 man squads would give you the points to put combis on everyone- still hitting real hard

And having a high number of bodies but armed with those high ap weapons might make a difference.

I've got a similar idea but with 1 termi squad with volkites cause choom, javelins in lieu of the lightning and vindicators running with a 5 man tyrant squad.

Yeah I'd considered it. 8man teams make good deepstriking units, but I'm a firm believer that weight of bodies will take the day. Always good to account for the inevitable casualties haha.

But we will see. I still have to take the list out for a spin. Not sure where I'd even find that many combiweapon bits haha.

A true Iron Warrior indeed.

Well yeah I guess they fit my playstyle, but I would've rather played ultramarines had I the chance to start again.

But since I have the models I might as well do it right! I just figured out that I have a perfect 3k list if I add my havocs. Room for MLs on the vets and everything.

So I've updated my army list to a 3000pt variant designed for competitive use. A friend mentioned you can field a voidshield to protect the Damocles so I'll try that out. It feels dirty putting it on the table, but it makes winning easier I guess. Alternatively I can drop it for come combiweapons on the termies.

Honestly I'm not sure a voidshield generator is worth the ire of my peers. Has anyone made use of it in 30k?

Isn't running the Siege Tyrants with Perturabo a bit of a waste? What is your plan with Perturabo - to get him into combat ASAP?

I only say that as running Pert with the Tyrants means that if/when he is combat those tasty Cyclone Missile Launcher shots are being wasted.

He's more of a deterrent for assault than anything else. I'm running him to access to  his abilities. His killing potential comes secondary. In the last few turns, or if the opportunity to leave the squad presents itself, then sure he'll run into combat, but he's durable enough to keep those typhoons firing, and he allows the list to function. Plus his own ranged firepower is nothing to scoff at.

Fair enough.

Do Perty and the Tyrants start on the board or in reserve? I'd start the Tyrants on the board and deepstrike Perty and the other Terminators right into the enemies deployment zone.

It depends on the enemy honestly. If I need the missiles behind something I'll ds. If not they can sit back with the havocs and Perty can come in with the termies.

My list is actually a bit different. I've dropped a couple termies for some combi plas rather than the void shield. I'd rather have more firepower than more defenses.
