I'm really torn here as far as whether to take a five-man unit or a 10-man unit.

Is it better to have the second psychic power... Or have the durability of a 10-man unit?

Since the points are the same and there are no benefits as far as extra weapons for discounted cost for the bigger squad Etc, I have been mostly running 5 man squads together so I can do things like share auras apothecaries Etc.

Unfortunately I'm the only one in my area playing Grey Knights... So I'd like to pick everyone's brain on this choice.

I would say run them as two 5 man squads as you get the extra attack on the justicar and while the justicar is alive a small squad is nearly immune to the effects of morale.

The only time i would consider using a full ten man is if you plan to DS them onto the board and thats just to reduce the amount of drops in your army.

Other than that there doesnt appear to be any reason to run full squads, but thats just my take on it.

Absolutely 5 man squads. Better for morale and attacks and is more board coverage. It's easier to find space to deepstrike a squad half the size too.

And in this edition, you're rewarded more for having more units for bigger detachments for extra CP.

So there really isn't any reason to take full size squads.

Reasons to include larger units are: More mileage from Buff powers, less charge rolls to make, and easier relocation through Gate.

I don't think they outweigh the benefits, but they're factors worth considering. If I'm not squeezed for Troops choices I usually like to take a ten man squad and then combat squad it as needed during deployment.

5 man is what I run, they're very effective. Doubles your Smite output too going in combat squads, which is no small thing.

With Psychic Focus limiting powers its kinda much of a muchness to be honest. Hammerhand is fantastic, but its probably better using your one cast of it on Paladins or a hero. And melee is very all or nothing now, you tend to either obliterate stuff on the charge or get bogged down and die.

The detachments aspect is pretty important IMO. Command Points are worth it, and the requirements are easy to meet with multiple 5-man squads.

So I just played a list with 3 imperial knights. Normally I run my paladins as a 3 man squad because the paragon with demon hammer is so good. For this match I ran a 10 man squad of paladins, I casted hammerhand on them and they were cutting through the imperial knights like a hot knife through butter. It was a thing of beauty. Honestly though not sure I will squad them like that again. It just didn't feel right.
