There's not many novels that focus on tau, though the tau appear as bit players in more.

Probably worth mentioning Simon Spurrier's Fire Warrior. It is absolutely not a proper novel with a decent story but it is utterly fascinating to at least dip into. We're talking about a book that is a very 1:1 attempt to turn a first-person shooter game into a coherent narrative without removing gunfights or any of the bizarre examples of video game logic. It's not good but does actually makes for a better and more interesting bolter-porn book than some of the lesser Space Marine Battles novels. A curio, if you can stomach it or find a cheap paperback

There are a few decent snippets of tau background in it though. It tracks Kais's belief in the greater good and faith in tau society as he crashes into what the galaxy is truly like, and I think it was the first place we saw the inner workings of tau battlesuit MIU or the fire caste military academies.

Gav Thorpe's 2nd Last Chancers novel sees Colonal Schafer and the Last Chancers infiltrating a T'au expansion as mercenaries. It does include a "behind the warfront" look at T'au society etc. It also has my favourite scene from any BL novel, but I won't ruin it, as it's a little unexpected in the novel :tu:

Cheers,

Broken Sword, from the Damocles collection, is a Gue'vesa-centric story that provides a very interesting perspective on the Empire and Imperium alike.

might have to read that

That's the one Guy Haley wrote, right?

If so, grap it! It is really good. While stowing away my BL books, I kept Damocles in my bookshelf mostly because of this story as it gives us a really good insight on the T'au society and the Gue'vesa themselves.

Can absolutely confirm this was the standout story of the Damocles collection and I'm particularly happy that I had this one in audiobook form instead.  Having the guardsman narrate in his own voice was just perfect.
