Hi guys,

I have been collecting and painting Grey Knightts for about a year now. I love thhe look and the lore of this army and i always prefferred the painting side of the hobby. This weekend i am going to make the jump and go to my local hobby store to play a few games. Luckily for me my hobby store is not that competative and its just people looking to have a good time. Considering i am new to the gaming side i was wondering if you guys could give me some help/advice in making a good 1000 pt list.

The models i have are,

1 x 5-man Strike squad w/ psycannon

15 x terminators/paladins (Can model these either way)

1 x Paladin bro banner guy

2 x Nemesis Dreadknightts

1 x Librarian in terminator armour

1 x Kaldor Draigo

1 x Castellan Crowe

1 x Stormraven Gunship

1 x Brother Captain

All help is greatly appreciated.

Same as Adeptus, but I'd use the Brother-Captain as a Grand Master, instead. Use him as Voldus if he happens to be armed with a Hammer and Storm Bolter. Drop the Ancient, if you can't fit everything in.

I wouldn't bother with Crowe or the Librarian.

You can use the Vanguard detachment, which has Elites as a requirement instead of troops. You could use the Brother Captain as a Grand Master instead, but I think especially for a learning game it's important to approach it with a mindset of just using whatever models you happen to have and having fun with it, not trying to squeeze every competitive edge out of the list :)
Of course, there's no actual difference between a BC and GM depending on how you've modelled them, but if you've identified him as a Captain then I think it's important for immersion and enjoyment to stick to that, at least for me personally. I'd never run my GM as a BC, despite the fact they're both just kit bashed out of the plastic Terminators box, it'd feel like he was getting demoted! He has a name and a short history, like all my characters so it would feel wrong to me to have him pretend to be someone else in a game. Edited by Adeptus

This is what I did in my first 8th game with GK, list was:

Grand Master

5 man Paladin Squad

2 Dreadnoughts - one geared for close combat the other for range

5 man Interceptor Squad

This was vs Sisters, sadly I conceded early due to losing my dreads early.  One went down when an Immolator charge up the board and drop a squad of Melta chicks bang next to me.  The other was unlucky when a Gate of Infinity failed giving the Penitent Engine the charge on its tune :(

While we agreed the Paladins were going to do a lot of damage and probably survive it was a four objective game so not enough units for the capture, which I think is one of our main problems.
