Brother Captain Sirus
I have started restoring a land raider i have had since i got my first mega force box, when i was just getting into the hobby. To say it has been a labour of love is an understatement, cutting off old doors and terribly assembled sponsons and so on. And now i have reached the critical choice Crusader or Redeemer, i am leaning more towards the crusader as its cheap for a land raider and i am planning to use it to take all my marines that generally head up field. In doing so i will lose out on 2 razorbacks with assault cannons but gain a land raider that can move and fire wirhout penalty. Any thoughts or experience feel free to comment. Quixus
Use magnets to have both. General Strike 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/336724-land-raider-crusader-or-redeemer/#findComment-4820926 Share on other sites
Captain Idaho
I'd go for the Crusader. The range of it provides use as support sooner than a Redeemer. Also, given the range of a Redeemer, it's more vulnerable to be charged. Brother Captain Ed
Magnetize if possible. If not, unless something changes in the codex, the Crusader is much better than the Redeemed (unless you're playing Cities of Death exclusively). Quixus
Does Cities of Death even do anything for flamers? As far as I can tell only grenades get a boost. If I missed something, please point me to the rule Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/336724-land-raider-crusader-or-redeemer/#findComment-4821039 Share on other sites
Brother Captain Sirus
I would assume its better for cities of death due to line of sight blocking terrain making the extra range of the bolters count for less. Brother Captain Ed
Right. If your land raider wobt get shot until it's in flamer range (or only shot in cover), the Redeemer is the clear choice. Otherwise the Crusader will be mowing infantry down for much of the game. Itsacon
GW sell the weapons sprue from the Redeemer/Crusader seperately, so you can easily get a second set of sponsons. I've found that magnetizing the entire sponson is much easier than just the weapons. abadizzle
What the heck?! We're Ultramarines... Godhammer all day! Ishagu
Godhammer all the way. Leave anti horde to our infantry, Dreads or goodies like the Quad Mortars :-) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/336724-land-raider-crusader-or-redeemer/#findComment-4828314 Share on other sites
Captain Idaho
I agree. My infantry kills infantry. Crusaders are great and all, but my infantry does the same job. Brother Captain Sirus
I have enough anti-tank with the Dev Squads, dreadnoughts and stormtalon, so an anti-infantry land raider is more beneficial. Currently facing orks and tyranids more than anything too, so the godhammer becomes less useful extremely quickly with so few big targets. abadizzle
Nids, so few "big targets"?! And having a handful of extra lascannons against battlewagons is always a good idea... Sounds like a crusader is your best bet if you're clearing chaff... You delivering a CC unit w the raider or centurions, etc? Brother Captain Sirus
Yeah the nids i have been facing have had very few MCs but a bucket of genestealers. With the crusader i'd be putting two 5man tac squads with combi-plasma and plasmagun, a 5 man assault squad with 3 plasma pistol (no jump packs) and a chaplain with plasma pistol. Aim would be to get my forward squads out there quickly and as group, disembark and clear objectives or high threat squads. Chaplain is with them as he makes the units immune to morale (especially now with CT +1 to Ld) and to boost their ability in the unavoidable close combat that will happen.
