Genestaler Cultist Knife

Quick question that came up in my first (very enjoyable) game of eighth last night.

 

The genestealer acolyte's cultist knife says 'Each time the bearer fights, it can make one additional attack with this weapon'

 

My question is, can a unit of 10 acolytes use their 2 attacks with their claws, so 20 attacks with claws then make a further 10 attacks with the knife?

 

Or does the knife have to be used to in the original 20 attacks to gain the extra 10?

It says they get an additional attack with the knife, nowhere does it say they have to make all their attacks with the knives to get that bonus. So 20 claws and then 10 knives.
