Rangeltoft
Hello fellow followers of the four-armed god! Yesterday I had my first 40k battle in a long long time. Noticed some time ago that GW had brought back one of my all time favorite army, The Genestealer Cult. (The battle was against Blood Angels, which I won by wiping out his entire army in turn 4, atleast that is how we ruled it, we had the same amount of Vps at the end.) now for a few questions: Whats the point of the Web-weapons? Only time I could see them work is against orks? Cultist Knife, if I have a unit of Acolytes, do they get 2 Rending Claw attacks and 1 Knife attack or do they get 1 Rending Claw and 2 Knife attacks in close combat? (am a bit confused on that part) Iconwards - Are they actully usefull? (used one in my game yesterday, but noticed today that the 6+ "fnp" save says Model within 6", not Unit.) Really looking forward to play more with my Genestealer Cult and expand my army (now I just need to figure out what stuff to buy). /Cheers Rangeltoft Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/336901-a-few-questions/ Share on other sites
Redtoof
Web weapons, good question. They are cheap, I think that's about it at the moment. Orks are S 4 now so I'm struggling to think where the web rule would actually be useful. Perhaps against some vehicles, but they are not going to be the optimal targets in any case. It feels like a poor alternative to both the flamer and the grenade launcher. The Acolytes should get two rending attacks and an extra one with the knife. It's the same as a chainsword/choppa/combat blade/whatever. Iconwards I suspect you would take for the morale bonus as much as anything. Feels like they want to either sit back surrounded with neophytes or hold hands with one powerful unit like Purestrains. I've not used him yet in 8th but he is quite cheap so might be worth a try. Sawtooth
Also with iconwards, if you're taking multiple genestealer cult detachments, the new 'tax' this edition seems to be HQ units, so they help satisfy that at a reasonable cost while still giving you something. Don't forget the leadership roll ability on the iconward, either. Morale Is more important than ever now. As for webbers....I got nothing, sorry. Rangeltoft
Redtoof: Thanks for the clarification on the Cultist Knife. Sawtooth: Indeed, he is the cheapest HQ the cult get, and is not useless, altho seems rather squishy. Iconward did fine in my game the other day, the reroll was very nice indeed. But then again, think I cheated with the fnp-aura a few times. Live and learn I guess. Rangeltoft
Got a new question.. Lash Whips/Metamorph Whips - Do you have to use them when you make the attacks if the carrier were killed? Or can you use Rending Claws instead? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/336901-a-few-questions/#findComment-4828546 Share on other sites
The laughing raven
the attacks can be made with weapon of your choice, whip just allows you to hang in as such and then use what you want after its become a puddle... Marshlands
Personally using the Iconward the least at the moment. I take 3 primus every game and then 1 Magnus for each spell I want to unlock (they all can be pretty good). Then upgrade them to a patriarch if I have the points. Dosjetka
Webbers are cheaper and have longer range than flamers (almost double), but in return they have less shots. The funky rule they have can easily be ignored as it will almost never come into play. Mordian Glory
Webbers are good against biker units which have +1 toughness but normal strength :) Against Space Marines Bikes this means that you wound on 4s instead of 5s. Against Eldar (dark and normal) it means you wond on 3s! This is actually quite good considering Eldar/Dark Eldar are very strong at the moment. They are also good against Leman Russ tanks, as they wound on 5s instead of 6s Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/336901-a-few-questions/#findComment-5168098 Share on other sites
