Hello.

I've recently fallen in love with the new Primaris Marines.

I want to build up a force of these fantastic models.

I've ordered the Dark Imperium box set as well as a few other bits.

I had an Ultramarines Legion force for Horus Heresy, I gave them up

when the lads I was playing with moved on or gave up HH.

Now I have the bit between my teeth to do a 40k Primaris Ultramarine force.

To start with they'll be a support force allied with my Death Korps of Krieg.

If I enjoy the painting and playing with them I may build a larger army.

Now I'm thinking which colour scheme to go for?

Do I go with the GW standard or do I use my HH scheme?

Everyone is familiar with the GW version, below is a Praetor for my HH force:

So what do you think?

Thanks for the warm welcome back guys!

I'll go with my old scheme.

Ishagu, yeah I'll tone down the bling!

I want them shiny and looking straight off the production line.

The way I see it the Primaris wouldn't have as many embellishments as regular marines, after all they haven't had 10k years to

decorate their armour.

I will be looking through my copy of Insignium Astartes for inspiration on how to make every man a hero!

I get my Primaris on the 31st (my birthday!) so I'll keep you up to date with my progress.

Just a minor side note.....

I personally think you can do whatever you want with your figs. You want them all to wear pink fury hats and white gloves... then that's fine with me. ;)

Just as comment on the bling though: Phil Kelly mentioned this and it was somewhere else as well but I can't remember where. I just wanted to let you know that there are Primaris Captains that were part of 'black ops' that were officers. Their identities were kept secret and they were sent on team missions. This sounded like it far preceded the full integration of Primaris but they did give them a 'beta' run of sorts. So some of the Primaris Captains -may- have some significant accomplishments under their belts.

Thanks Ishagu, that's what I'll be going for.

Cheers derLumpi.

Prot, I love your attitude! I think people should do what they think is best!

On that note, I'm planning on not using red in the force.

I'm thinking crests on the officers or iron halos if I can't fit a crest on!

Should go along with the Greek/Roman feel to the force.

  • 2 weeks later...

I know I said I wouldn't "bling up" my Primaris Marines and I'm going to stick with that, but I couldn't help starting with the shiniest model first!

Below is my Primaris Captain. I wanted to convey that this guy was the boss (Lord Guilliman excluded of course!)

So I raided the bitz box and added the parts I thought would look cool. I think he looks the part.

I used a limited colour scheme and will roll this out across the whole force. I wanted to build an army with a "Forces of Ultramar" theme.

Both Krieg and Primaris will be fighting  together so I wanted to tie them in together so I used black and blue to show a united front.

I also bought the Dark Imperium and Triumvirate of the Primarch box sets. (can't believe how cost effective the sets are!)

Here's the pics of the captain:

Thanks for looking!

Hopefully I'll get some time to add to the project soon.

Thanks very much for the positive replies!

Redrandy93, it's good to be back working on the Ultramarines!

Reiner, great minds think alike!! Yeah the shield is from that kit!

Centurion Jay, next will probably be one of the jet pack guys.

Cheers Prot, the crest is from the Ultramarines upgrade kit with an Ultima symbol from the brass etch sheet.

Progress!!

Nothing fancy on this Sergeant for my Inceptor squad, just a head swap.

Next few for this squad will be straight out of the box.

I've been thinking that with using the black I've started a Vth Company element!

This seems to sit well with the fact that apparently they received a lot of casualties recently.

I know I haven't strictly followed the fluff but I think the gold on the shoulder pads just looks so right!

Next up I'll be finishing up this squad.

Great work Jud,

and your right the gold does make a difference...in a good way   and i love the Black shields on the black bolters it looks more uniform that way.

i love the sword and symbol on the helm top,Face pops well and the splash of green cabling adds a good contrast, bases are really nice and not too overdone...this gets ticks in all the boxes, seeing your guys makes me want to go paint some up :laugh.:

Cheers, Mithril

Thanks very much mithrilforge!

Glad you feel inspired to paint some of your own!

I finished my first squad of Inceptors for my Primaris Ultramarines!
Lovely models that fit together easily.

Here's the completed squad:

Really pleased with how they're coming along!

Wow, they look really good! I'm a big fan of the inceptors and moreso after reading Dark Imperium, though looking at your models made me realise, is that meant to be like a hood that comes down over the helmet and all when they drop from low orbit? To protect their face of course? If not the sergeant is not going to have a fun time in his drop!

But they do look good and I really do like the helmet swap for the sergeant. Have you used them in a game yet?

Thanks Wolfguard! Bit of an oversight by me! I just thought the bare head looked cool!

I enjoy the painting but I've not played a game with the Ultramarines.

I'm planning on running my Primaris Ultramarines with my Astra Militarum.

Embarrassingly enough I still haven't got the new codex so forgive my ignorance.

I'd like the Primaris to hit hard and fast, I'm thinking Inceptors with a Repulsor or 2 with units embarked.

Also am I right in thinking Guilliman buffs all "Imperium" key word units?

Ah no worries! I like the idea you have for Primaris and it's probably pretty suitable for the primaris marines in fairness, especially the Inceptors. For the bare-headed guy I'm fairly sure that hood looking thing is meant to come down on them in the fluff.

Guilliman buffs imperium units within 12 with hit rerolls of 1, and failed morale tests. Then he has the obvious extras for ultramarines. Not sure how much I can post without breaking the rules in honesty, make him your warlord for a bunch of free CP though!

  • 1 month later...
Got my first Hellblaster done for my Primaris Ultramarine contingent!
I'll be doing a lot of these for a while as I promised the boss that I wouldn't buy anything new
until I've painted at least half of my backlog!!
With these I've tried to make them as clean as possible so they contrast completely with the
muddy and weathered Krieg stuff.
Here's the first of many:
I'll post some more pics once I've finished the squad.
In the mean time what do you guys think of the colour scheme?
I know it's not strictly codex but I wanted to do something a little different.
Finally some progress!
Got my first squad of Hellblasters finished.
I'm trying to keep things uniform but still showing that each one of these
guys is a hero in their own right.
I had a transfer sheet left from when I was working on a Horus Heresy force
so I'm using them to add individuality.
Here's the latest pics:

Next up I'll do some Intercessors.
