Assault cannon bits for conversion

Hi there

 

Been trying to find assault cannon parts (from land raiders) on all the bits sites I know and am finding them all sold out.  I'm trying to convert 4 of my razorbacks to have twin assault cannons and althoug hi have three of the mountings really just don't have the actual guns themselves. I know the assault cannons from the crusader use the smae mount and ar eproportionally the right size of I'd like to know if anyone knows of any obscure bits sites or has any of these parts they'd be willing to trade?

 

so far i've tried:

 

bitzbox

hoard o bits

mega bits shop

let the dice decide

forbidden gaming

 

i'd rather not have to buy full land raider kits just to get these bits and then try to sell on the rest of the vehicle kit (although it would you could still make a godhammer out of them i suppose) so any ideas welcome

The problem with assault cannon bits is that the only kit that comes razorback ready is the Land Raider Crusader kit. You could probably convert the cannons from a Storm Raven in a pinch. I'd honestly suggest 3rd party for assault cannons, Kromlech has some awesome ones (I used to make a Razorback Rikarius), Bitspudlo also makes a couple of different sets.

Try Kromlech. They do just what you're looking for (called Legionary APC twin mini gun). You can get the full Razorback conversion complete with top plate or just the turret.

Do what everyone did for years, grab any old assault cannon and modify the heavy bolters:



Landspeeder, Terminators, the old Ravenwing sprue/Dark Angels Chapter upgrade, Storm Talon/Storm Hawk are all good enough sources.

The example there uses a lot more of the original barrell than I would if doing the conversion, if you wanted to emulate this exactly a couple of the sources of bits wouldn;t be so viable.

Otherwise most of the major 3rd party producers have an Assault Cannon variant - Kromlech, Puppets War are the best two.

Alternatively Forgeworld do an awesome one, though it's £16

I saw this and it's definatley an option as I could probably seel on most ofthe other bits and recoup some of my money however at £12.30 if i did't make any money back I'd be out of pocket quite a bit by the time i'd bought four. it's an option though cheers

Ok so I have had a look in my bits box and I actually have five of those assault cannons... so i'd need 3 more to do what I'm wanting. I would also need another heavy bolter turret...  interesting hmm

I think the plastic hexagonal (or whatever sided shape) cannon conversion looks better than the official circular one from FW. Looks more primitive, aggressive, and grimdark, like the old wind-up gatling guns. The version with the round plate just looks like a modern gatling gun, which to be fair, is far more deadly but is just not as visually visceral.

I don't suppose theres anyone out there who wants two metal underslung land speeder assault cannons for three of the platic ones needed above? I'd be willing to do a trade

This is the best assault cannon turret there is out there! looks like the original GW one seen on land raiders, but also have a cool ammo feed under the cannons, they are in resin as easy to build as the GW one and they are a pretty good cast, those I got had no bubbles and barely any mould lines, I highly recommend them:

Just got 3 of the FW variant and though expensive, they are amazing looking and unlike some of my previous experiences, a pleasure to clean and assemble. Strong recommend from me.

Thanks folks those are some pretty nice ones on the forgeplanet website, but i'm not sure I want to be shelling out over $50 for four vehicle upgrades if i can help it.

Same goes for the forgeworld ones, look georgeous but having just repurchased my army at the beginning of the year (I know bad time) I'm already low on funds and am herfore looking for cheap alternatives if and where possible.

I just used the entire turret from a Stormraven. Had spare parts from my Fire Raptor kit.

Stormraven is a good choice. As are the assault cannons from Dreadnought and Venerable Dreadnought kits that you haven't used.
