thewarriorhunter
OK, I was trying to figure out what scheme I want to paint my Kill Team in. I don't want to paint black, but I also don't want them to be very bright given their objective... I think my base scheme is going to be brown with complimentary cream accents. I'm torn between a teal or orange for the contrasting bits. I'm totally open to suggestions on changes. I want them to be very spartan in their uniform without being bland. I played around with more accents on their armor but I feel like the shoulders are enough, doing anything to the knees/hands/etc seemed to make it to garish. I'm not sure what I'll do to their back packs but I think the main complimentary color might see a little more use on there. Bjorn Firewalker
Why don't you paint the winged skull white, to match the pauldrons? The red winged skull can blend into the copper breastplate, becoming indistinguishable in poor lighting conditions; the blue winged skull stands out too much, as it's a cool color symbol on a warm color background, looking out-of-place as a direct consequence. thewarriorhunter
I think I like the teal more than the orange, but it looked funny on the chest emblem. How about we make teal the secondary color and use bone for the accents, and I'll keep the eyes orange for a bit of contrasting pop. Custom Hero
This last one is a pretty nice scheme. As far as your rules question goes, in my playing group if you put a custom chapter down and declared theme DW. We could care less. Your models, your choice. What I would advise is to ask your local group if they have any problem with it. I doubt they will. thewarriorhunter
Decided I needed to start clipping sprues and getting stuff ready for paint. First up is my Reiver Sgt who will be my leader. I was going back and forth between two poses but I think I've settled on this one: Hidden Content He's equipped with a bolt carbine and combat knife and I wanted to model him as such. I think this pose looks cooler than the other one (end of post). Also I can easily magnetize the carbine arm and throw heavy bolt pistol on him if I ever run him with that load out. I still have to add the accessories and grenades but the basic idea is there. Here's the other option that I was first considering: Hidden Content Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/336983-thewarriorhunters-plog-for-the-greater-good-commission/page/3/#findComment-5151604 Share on other sites

thewarriorhunter
Intercessor Gunner is done (his barrel still needs to be drilled though) He's rocking a Stalker Bolt Rifle with an AGL and the Demolitions specialism. 30" Krak grenades shall be lobbed down range with no penalty to hit. I plan on keeping him in the backfield with another Intercessor with the Comms specialism so he can get rerolls. I made his AGL by chopping up the lower portion of a stern guard combi bolter and removing the sling. I then took a Primaris rifle and carefully removed the sling from the front attachment and glued it back in place. I added some bits from a scout kit to the sling to represent the grenades he will be carrying. I am not sure where to put his sicae (knife). I'm debating between his back, left front belt, or his left armor plate. I think I may end up going with the back because it's out of the way, but I feel like it looks to busy there. Any input is appreciated. Custom Hero
I would say the back. The primaris look alot like the deathwatch armor to me, so I would just copy that asthetic. thewarriorhunter
I would say the back. The primaris look alot like the deathwatch armor to me, so I would just copy that asthetic. Thanks for the feedback! I think I will probably stick to the back as well. It seems to fit the best in that location. Combat Sgt is mostly done after a little bit of converting. I started with one of the LTs from the Dark Imperium box: Hidden Content I didn't like his pose... I felt like he was taking up too much space and was just flailing about. I tried cutting his arm up to reposition but nothing was working. After some thinking and tial and error I decided to swap his Power Sword to a Reiver arm and use a Reiver Bolt Pistol arm. I like the Reiver pistols a lot more and this gave me a more dynamic pose that kept the arms around the body... which is what you usually want if your in CQB. Too me he looks like he is about to cut his enemy in half with a brutal sweep of his sword: Hidden Content Hidden Content I pinned the sword and hilt to either side of a small pin i drilled through the hand for stability (sorry forgot to take a picture). The right Reiver shoulder doesn't take a pad so that got a bit of shaving and sanding to fit a shoulder pad on it. These pads were place holders for photos. I have some pads from my Calth box that have raised metal edges that I am going to put on him. It makes sense to me that a melee guy would have a little extra protection and these will visually represent that. I'm still not sure how to represent his rifle. I'm thinking I may just glue it to his base behind him to make it look like he threw it down as he got into close combat. deathspectersgt7 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/336983-thewarriorhunters-plog-for-the-greater-good-commission/page/3/#findComment-5154289 Share on other sites
thewarriorhunter
Comms Specialist is nearing deployment-ready status: Hidden Content Hidden Content Hidden Content Hidden Content Took a Heavy Bolter backpack and converted it to be a radio instead. Added a handle to the ammo belt because I wasn't sure what to do with it. Now it's an extra way to lug the thing around if it's detached from the main back pack. Cut up a sniper rifle for one antenna and used a pin for the other. The pin needs cleaning up as some extra glue got on it. I took the models left arm and cut it below the bad so I could have it look like the marines is examining his readout and relaying firing instructions. I was thinking of greenstuffing some cables but I think it might be too much. I'm happy with him for now. Bjorn Firewalker
Claim the "handle" is that of a vox handset, so others- HQ units in particular- can use his communications systems? You might as well bulk up the handle with a speaker and microphone. thewarriorhunter
Combat Intercessor Sgt model figured out: Hidden Content Here's the question. His weapon won't fire anymore, the Marine knows he was on his last mag of bolt rounds. Would he drop the mag to check for a jam or just discard his weapon because he's so in tune with his tool that he knows it didn't fail and is empty? I'm not sure if I should remove the mag and hollow out the well or leave it modeled still inserted. thewarriorhunter
Here we go. Test run for painting the Spectral Sicarii tonight. Rows of paints are groups for what I'll be painting. Armor, shoulder pads, soft armor, and eyes (i'm thinking of just washing over the gray and hoping that will give a nice glow on it's own). I still have to figure out details like holsters and pouches but those are secondary to the overall scheme. thewarriorhunter
Finally got around to finishing up the basics for my test model. I watched the Cyberpunk 2077 trailer and got super excited and started playing Borderlands 2 again. FPS and RPG combo? That's my jam on PC! Anyways, back to 40k. Super stoked with how it looks. It's a bit tedious to paint, especially because I'm glazing in the armor lines and that is a painstakingly slow process. But I do like the look. I'm leaning towards painting the pouches/holsters the same gray that I used on the chest emblem however I'm open to suggestions for them.
