Leoric
Greetings! Yesterday I primed some of my miniatures with GW-s Corax White Primer. First I didn't noticed anything wrong, but on a closer look the white paint gathered in flock on them, and the whole surface has a rough touch. I didn't know what could happened, as these sort of problems didn't come up when I used GW-s black primer. I even tried to scratch the flock down with a toothbrush. It is really disappointing... Do anyone had the same problem? Why could this happened? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/337016-priming-problems/ Share on other sites
Ciler
This has been known to happen occasionally, especially with white. Three pieces of advice, shake the can thoroughly before priming (not 5s, more like a minute) ; spray from the required distance (30 cm) ; spray in multiple short bursts rather than holding the nozzle down. Kinstryfe
I think I've had this happen with black once when there was high humidity. May have contributed? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/337016-priming-problems/#findComment-4829396 Share on other sites
Bryan Blaire
High heat, high humidity, poor propellant flow: all three can cause some kind of clumping/orange peel/surfacing issues out of spray cans. Â Your best bet is to try and spray when it's less than about 75-80 degrees Fahrenheit (20 Celsius I think most cans recommend) out on a day with no projected rain and a low humidity point, and shake the dickens out of the can (or heat it up some in some hot water before using), then don't use it for too long - as the can gets cooler while you spray, the propellant and paint will not flow as well. Â Be careful warming the can with the water, hand warm only - too hot and you will make a grenade, and you wouldn't want to let that go off in your hand, would you? KBA
I used to have this happen when I would put my models in an enclosure to try to minimize spray paint from getting everywhere. What would happen is the spray paint would bounce off the inside of the box I had used and generally settle in rough surface over my models. I started spray painting with no enclosure or backdrop and this problem went away Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/337016-priming-problems/#findComment-4829593 Share on other sites
Verger
GW have had a faulty batch of Corax White spray go out, apparently, Leoric. Its probably nothing you've done wrong at all. I had exactly the same issue only this week. I provided photos sent to their customer service team and they're replacing my can and the mini, so all is well. It might be worth contacting them.  Though mine came out as some kinda weird dust. That stuff on the paper was like snow - I could pick it up and sprinkle it. Thank you for your advice. I bought the can and the figures from my local store, but it isn't a Warhammer store. Is it still worth a try?  My friend told me to wash the paint away, and start it anew. Maybe next time I wouldnt have the same problem. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/337016-priming-problems/#findComment-4829807 Share on other sites
Verger
ITs worth emailing them, just on the off chance. GW on the whole have very solid customer service and even if you don't get any joy, you're no worse off for it. Master Commander Ajax
I sometimes find that I get a 'dusty' texture if I use spray primer from too far a distance. Isolia
With corax white I even shake the can while spraying and make short bursts that begin away from the model, move across it and end away from it on the other side (e.g. left / model / right ) , to avoid having the beginning or the end of the shot on the model. It helps to avoid having the pigmentless sprays of the beginning of a shot or at the end of a too long shot (shot = burst ) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/337016-priming-problems/#findComment-4833728 Share on other sites
