I'm still in the process of finishing up my World Eaters Army and I don't know which large transport to add next. A second Spartan would be nice because it will be harder for any opponent to split the fire between two.. The Storm Eagle on the other hand is much harder to hit and moves much further, but, takes a lot longer to get on the table and if it happens to explode the consequences are much higher. I'm pretty sure the Spartan has more firepower as well...

What do you guys think?  The Spartan is probably much easier to build based on what I've read from the interwebnets on the Storm Eagle. I'm sure that counts for something.

You also have to hover the storm eagle if you want to drop your guys of, so it can get shot to bits.

The only way to have the Storm Eagle from the get go is to set it up in deployment, which is not worth it if you do not have first turn. It would be classed as stationary/hovering so can get shot at, unless you jink, which makes shooting attacks from the storm eagle a steaming pile of poo.

Plus the kit is a nightmare to assemble, from someone who has built both kits.

You can't set up fliers on the board without a specific special rule.

So, the Stormeagle is still hard to build? I was planning on using one in my Ultramarines, because it looks cool and doesn't cost me an arm and a leg, like the Thunderhawk or Stormbird. But I really dread the kit because of all the comments about it being one of the worst builds ever.

The kit is certainly difficult to assemble, but by no means a nightmare.

Not half as bad as some the more recent GW kits. I had to build a Mortach for WHFB quite recently, and boy their mount IS a nightmare.

Currently have a Storm Eagle in the works and it's about half-build.

You can start your Eagle on the board by deploying a Skyshield Landing Pad, which clocks in at another 75 pts.

The combination is honestly not worth it IMHO since it gets expensive quicky. Though with the XXth it's fun to have a deployed, scouting, 2+ jink Storm Eagle on the board.

For the price of a LR Phobos with some upgrades you get a 20-man transport that is an assault vehicle and spots the same amount of Lascannon fire plus a potential multi-melta.

Depending on your list (!! as always !!) this is certainly worthwhile.

For an assaulty list the Kharybdiss rules supreme though.
