Just like the thread title says really!

The Imperial Guard resplendent with their Imperium keyword have access to a huge number of potential allies. From a fluff point of view it's very easy to combine any of these forces together so the focus here is on table to use (although if you want to talk about fluff lets do it!).

I want to know who people are using and why. Are you complementing the Guard strengths or bolstering their weaknesses? At how many points is it worth bringing allies? Are you using one "Imperium" detachment or a Guard Detachment with a separate one for allies?

I've got a small Imperial Fists force to add to my Guard on occasion, mainly because I loved the Mk3 power armour models. They really don't do anything that Guard can't do as well or better! A gunline with lots of ultra reliable bolters. There are some Vanguard veterans if I want a close combat specialist unit to complement my Bullgryns and rough Riders. Also some choppy inquisition stuff that can't use it's Land raider any more (boooo).

Clearly I'm not making the best use of allies, so over to my comrades for some tactical insight that's actually useful!

I usually run pure Guard lists, but did take the occasional Assassin or Knight before. The Vindicare isn't as useful in 8th sadly so I'll probably be leaving him at home more - maybe look at a different Assassin perhaps but otherwise it's always fun getting a Knight on the table (especially when you spent so much time and effort on it!) :)

I have Red Scorps I made to ally with my Elysians, but I have too many units I like bringing with my Elysians to waste points on marine allies and cant field everything I want even at 2250 as it is. Not a huge fan of allies anyway as I feel they are a crutch to shore up weakness in the armies which I think its one of the points of having different armies with different strengths and weaknesses. When I was really concerned with first turn charges back when I was running both cadian and Elysian forces was when I was considering the marines as a means to shore up my back line.  Now that I switched to almost pure elysian(my mortars, scout sents, and their officer are standard guard) I don't feel the need to have my line shored up. I want my opponent to push forward for the first turn charge, he will have to work through a defense line of DS bubbles first to get to them and then I will hit him from every side with my own DSing.
