Well screw the photobucket phiasco of 2017, time for a new thread for a new purpose.
8th ed has caused a bit of a commotion in our local club, with plenty of us who haven't played "modern" 40k in quite a few editions ready to give it a go again, especially for some light fluffy games.

All it took was for an enterprising person to raise there hand and start a slow grow, and with that I'm sitting here with the Index's and planning out how to bring my favorite 2nd ed army into the modern light.

It'll be a story driven campaign, plenty of players (Over 30 at this point) with games played all month but more points awarded to games played during the montly club day.

First month is using the following rules while we get a grasp of them:

  • Mission: Only War
(difference in points will be used to determine underdog not power levels)
  • 300 points
  • 1 x HQ (max)
  • 2 x Troops (minimum)
  • NO Elite, Fast Attack, Flyers, Heavy Support, Lords of War or Dedicated Transports.
  • Only the core rules will be used (everything you need to know is below)

With that in mind I'm planning on finishing painting the following:

HQ: Cannoness 60pts
Combi-Flamer
Power Maul

Troops:

BSS  124
9 Bolter Sisters
Heavy Bolter Sister
Storm Bolter Sister
Superior: Power Sword, Boltgun

BSS 116
8 Bolter  Sisters
Heavy Flamer Sister
Storm Bolter Sister
Superior: Chainsword, Plasma Pistol

Not much to paint with a week left to go.

Looking forward to seeing the progress Mard.  Your painted models look really good - can't wait to see what you do with everyone's favourite Canoness sculpt!

Speaking of Canonesses (Canonii?), can you tell me what the backpack is?  It looks like one of the metal variants out of the current Canoness kit, but it appears to be plastic or resin of some kind... I only ask because I'm desperately short of backpacks for my own Sisters, and if you've got a secret supplier of third party backpacks, I'd be interested to know how I can get my hands on some!

Only picture I managed to take (Phone was playing up:

Well round 1 is done and dusted.
After 2 small games of the new addition I have to admit I'm enjoying it so far, but we'll see how that pans out with some larger games.

Game 1 was vs an Admech force.
Even with my opponents sniper hitting my Cannoness multiple times they failed to bring her down  and the cogboys suffered withering bolter fire (You can have a lot of bolters at 300pts compared to most people) Also of note, i rolled a 1 for Acts of Faith every turn this game.

Game 2 was vs the insidious Cult
A good opening with Acts of Faith gave me the option to move a Sisters squad twice in a row to smash a unit of Cultists sitting in terrain. In retaliation I lost the unit of Sisters to a Hybrid ambush the following turn to a combination of some Magus spell removing my overwatch and some devastating charge.
The second squad pulled their weight moving around the field with the Cannoness Smashing all in their path.

Some thoughts after my games:
The Heavy bolter and Storm bolters were great.
Heavy Flamer never really did anything both games, I'm thinking of swapping it for another Heavy bolter of Multi Melta for next Months game.

So next month we gain another 200pts to bring the total up to 500pts
Winners are allowed a Fast attack choice to push the attack
Losers are alloweda  Heavy shoice to hold the line (So looks like I'll be coming up against some armour...)

Thoughts on what I should Take?

If you want fast attack, id go with Seraphim. Dominions are great but not optimally placed in 200pts.

Otherwise more bodies on the table is always good. Morw output of shots anf throw some heavy weps on them to add weight.

Cant go wrong with an immolator these days though...

These look really good Mard.  I like the 32mm base on the boss girl too... Might start doing that with a few of my own characters to help them stand out a bit.

200 points is a tough call for fast attack.  You'll certainly get a decent amount of Seraphim for that... but you could almost squeeze a Dom squad with a few Meltas in a Rhino too... which might be handy if you're going to be coming up against armour...

For something completely different - Arco Flagellants ( ideally + a Priest) would probably eat some face at 500 points... especially if you can shoehorn in a transport for them
