CHAPTER CULT AND BELIEFS

Mission: Re-forged during the Ultima founding after taking critical losses when they responded to the calls for aid from Holy Terra. The Knights of Lyonesse were originally tasked with the responsibility of pushing out into the Veiled Region and establishing a Defensive stronghold to protect the Imperium from any potential new threats that could arise from this uncharted region of space one the edge of Imperial territory. They have diligently persecuted this task for nearly 10,000 years.

Philosophy: The Knights of Lyonesse bear many similarities and many differences from their cadres. They have completely adopted the knightly virtues and non-codex adherent organization, manning and marking system of their Black Templar Brethren but unlike the Templars they see value in the need and use of Librarians. The Knights of Lyonesse realize that the Human societies they are meant to defend are in fact the life blood of the Imperium. They are for that matter humanists, not to the extreme of chapters like the Salamanders but they accept their mission to safeguard the Imperium means they must safeguard that which makes the Imperium exist, man! Their stubbornness and refusal to accept defeat or withdrawal has already become a known trait throughout the Astartes. Since their finding of the Lyonesse system and the establishment of this system as their stronghold, they have adopted the pre heresy belief structure of the Imperial Truth. While they do not publicize it to avoid brining Inquisitorial edicts, they do accept it as their beliefs.

Recruitment: Because the new Primaris techniques allow for older recruits to be taken The Knights of Lyoness now receive recruits via two meathods. First is the original method, an honor tithe by the houses of all their second sons or male children who could not inherit to include bastard/illiigitimate children from the houses and clans. This tithe is automatically given once they reach the appropriate age. The houses and clans ensure all male children are schooled in all manner of military training and tacticum. The second is the newer method and it is a regular tithe of warriors from all of the houses and clans used to refill the ranks of the Knights of Lyonesse or supplement their support military forces (equivalent of an Imperial Guard regiment).

HOMEWORLD, NOBLE HOUSES AND LYONESSE SYSTEM

Homeworld: Avalon located is located in the Lyonesse System beyond the Veiled Region of the Segmentum Tempestus. Avalon is a small populated industrial world/satellite the orbits the much larger habitable world of Lyonesse. The small planet is ruled over by a long forgotten wing of the mechanicum. Avalon is not on the level of a forgeworld but is capable of producing many STC vehicles, weapons and equipment.

Lyonesse System: The Lyonesse system consists of 16 planets and 30 satellites/moons, 5 planets and 6 satellites are inhabited by humans. The state of technological advancement equal is to the time of the great crusade. The Largest of these planets and seat of power within the system is Lyonesse. All the inhabited planets and moons are ruled by noble houses. These houses and the populations of the other planets and moons all trace their roots back to Lyonesse. Lyonesse always maintained its feudal lord system of governance throughout the planets history and technological development, even as its populations ventured out onto other worlds.

There are 11 ruling houses that make up the ruling council of the Lyonesse system. Each house is made up of between 11 to 30 clans/fiefdoms per house.  The Lyonesse system has a very complicated ruling system but at its core it is simple, the 11 ruling houses elect one house to be the Proconsul for a set period of time, that House has the final say in all military and political decisions, or is the deciding vote in the case of a split decision amongst the other houses. Each clan and House has a set number of Imperial Knights, troops and Ships it maintains as part of its military might and what it contributes towards the systems defense against any outside threat.

As with all feudal systems, these positions from the clans and houses are hereditary. The clans and houses can increase their status through marriages and alliances and displays of military prowess. When there is a dispute between houses that cannot be resolved through negotiation or by the mediation of the council, the house involved in the dispute are allowed to go to war with each other. These conflicts are very ritualistic and can last a century or longer. Other houses are not allowed to directly interfere. The proconsul oversees that all the articles of war between houses are adhered to. The houses will fight five major battles over a prolonged period of time. The house that wins the majority of the battles is declared the winner by the council. In the event of a tie then the houses select a champion and these Imperial Knights fight an honor duel to the death to determine the victor. Once a determination/declared winner of the conflict is named the losing house must abide by the outcome or face military action from all the other houses combined. The issue in question can never be brought up for dispute again.

The Lyonesse system although long since detached from the Imperium because they were simply forgotten by the Imperium at large over the mellenia. They have, however, maintained a philosophical adherence to the Imperium of man. Because their last contact with the Imperium was during the time of the Great crusade the Houses of Lyonesse follow the Imperial Truth. When they are rediscovered by the (Name deleted from records) now known as the Knights of Lyonesse, they quickly embrace the chapter. The Knights as part of their assimilation into this well-resourced and fortified system adopt the Imperial truth as tenant of their belief structure. This is allowed and supported quietly by Robute Guilliman. The system has long endure xenos invasions and incursions over the mellenia but the systems combine defensive capibilities of the Houses combine with the astartes of the Knights of Lyonesse have to date been able to erradicate any threat.
