LutherMax
I was hoping to get some Whirlwind turrets so I can pop them on my Rhino / Razorback hills without having to buy and paint whole new tank(s). Seem to be gold dust on eBay and bits sites - anyone know of a source? I'd prefer official ones but if there are cool third party options out there I'd consider them... Imren
You can get these ones (pretty pricey for being a whirlwind launcher, but looks way better than the turtle shell look of the FW Scorpius) and fit them on the razorback top hatch, or cut off the legs and attach it on rhino top hatch doors (if you do, fill the saw-tooth hatch door gap). https://www.forgeworld.co.uk/en-SE/Space-Marine-Air-Defence-Missile-Launcher Brother Aiwass and LutherMax 2 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/337200-whirlwind-turrets/#findComment-4834218 Share on other sites
LutherMax
Thanks guys - both good options! I think I'll go with the Forge World one as I'd prefer it to be 'official' and live in the U.K. so shipping will be cheaper. At £24 though I might check eBay for second hand complete Whirlwinds! Bung
Or you could go kromlech which would be cheaper and still good looking. You can also find various Razorback suited turrets. https://bitsofwar.com/home/666-twin-missile-launcher-turret.html LutherMax 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/337200-whirlwind-turrets/#findComment-4834324 Share on other sites
Cloud Runner
@Imren - that is just the stock FW launcher on a base plate - pretty certain it's separate to the legs. The Kromlech ones look good, and there's various other options out there too - have a look at the bits suppliers list thread and I'm sure you'll find loads of variations. I will say that Kromlech/Maxmini have fantastic quality in their parts and the shipping is very reasonable - you can get 3 of their whirlwind turrets for that single FW defence platform. Finally, as an alternative to eBay and bits sites, have a look on the various Facebook trading groups - you might be able to snag a bargain - I've had a few good trades from there :) LutherMax 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/337200-whirlwind-turrets/#findComment-4834355 Share on other sites
LutherMax
Good shout both! I realised another thing I could do for a quick cheap fix (for one WW) is use the Aiolos from my Deredeo In fact, if I can figure out a good way to attach it, I can buy one more for half the price of the Tarantula... hmm... Imren
Yeah, Iforgot about kromlech, that one look as good as the FW one and less than half price. As long as the base is round then you can attach it without any major alterations to the regular razorback top hatch. When I built my FW deimos damocles rhino, I magnetized the satellite dish with a big magnet 5 x 2 mm that was drilled and glued in the centre of the socket hole in the top hatch plate and one underneat the dish base. I suggets you do the same for whichever missile turret you buy. Cloud Runner
The deredeo launcher has a much smaller turret 'pin' than the hole on the razor back top, so you'd need to build up a specific mount purely for it. However, I know that the hole in the razorback turret ring is the exact diameter of a UK 2p piece, so you can use that as a guide on some plasticard or something :D LutherMax 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/337200-whirlwind-turrets/#findComment-4834598 Share on other sites
