I don't like their style. I find it looks odd beside GW models. But I know from others who bought from wargameexclusive who are pleased with the quality at least.

Yeah, people seem to say the quality of the casts is good.

But I'm not a fan of their tendency towards "pin-up" models and apart from a handful of exceptions (their Warp Spiders are pretty good), I find their models over-proportioned and over-stylised. Both the linked model (Master of Crusade) and the Imperial Wolves Prime suffer from this in a way that makes them look more akin to Warcraft characters than 40k ones.

(Before anybody starts, I am also a Warcraft fan; it's not that I dislike that style, it's a matter of the tone of the models being inconsistent with 40k at large)

its ugly :sad.:

the problem i have with 3rd party models is, they always stick out - in a bad way. each time i look at armies with "other" dudes in it, it feels like an alien

Well, I wouldn't see him doing very well in a beauty pageant, but ugly?

And the competition:

I'd go with Wargames exclusive on this one. The Forgeworld head is horrendous.

Some 3rd party models stand out next to GW designs, some don't. Depends what you buy from where.

For some reason third party companies never manage to get the proportions right. They're either too slim like WarEx, or too bulky like Scibor and HITECH. I have never seen a company make a model that either looks exactly like GW's "classic" heroic proportions, or FW's "sleek/crisp" proportions. Probably Orks are the only third party miniatures that don't look out of place in 40K. Like if you look at Kabuki Primarchs, even their best sculpts just look off and you can tell it's not official. Although Tylos Rubio and the Knight heads from FW also look like third party stuff.

They have a few Fantastic Tech marine/Admech character models and the "Greater Good" sculpts might make a few nice additions for Tau armies granted, the scale matches.Which is concerning as I have a small guard detachment made up of Dreamforge games Eisenkern Stormtroopers and was considering a few Raging Heroes characters (commissar,Primaris psyker, etc.) To round out the unit .I wonder is 28mm the size of the model or does that include the base?

Dang. And mentioning bases what is the "standard" base size these days ? I know Deathwatch gots them nice new bases and supposedly power armor was to go on them but w/ 8ed does that even matter?

All new Power Armour infantry kits and repacks have been on 32mm bases since mid 6th Edition; the first sign of it was the Shield of Baal campaign box at the end of 2014. The only models in the Astartes range still on 25mm in an "official" sense are Scouts and Servitors.

As for the second part; no, not really. There aren't any specific rules governing base sizes in 8th edition.

Standard bases for marines are 32mm, I think most other infantry are still on 25s

We're seeing more and more kits change base sizes as they get redone or reboxed; Genestealers, Tau Stealth Suits, majority of the Necron range, Nurgle, Khorne and Tzeentch minor Daemons all been moved on to 32mm. Personally I think Orks are big enough to suit 32mms as well, and most Eldar models have their feet over the edge of a 25mm base. I think at this point we just put models on the bases we think look best.

anyone wanting female commissars, tech priests, inquisitors, acolytes etc is almost forced to go 3rd party

I think I'd rather go to a 3rd party that doesn't over sex their models like these though.

they have sexualised models, and non sexualised models

if they're not to your taste, then that's fine

that said, i find these models to be better than gw for inquisitorial squads

but I also have a pinup techpriest, and will get a female commissar (both for my renegades, as I love variety in my models, as well as gender diversity not seen in GW models)
