This is the Captain that comes with one: https://www.games-workshop.com/en-GB/Primaris-Space-Marines-Captain

He has a choice between a Master-Crafted Bolt Rifle or Master-Crafted Stalker Bolt Rifle.

- If you see the 5th picture along, and the sprues, you'll notice that when building the gun there is two different ammo clip parts. One has a scope attached, the other doesn't.

- Therefore, the difference between a Bolt Rifle and Stalker Bolt Rifle is the scope.

- The only thing that makes it Master-Crafted is that a Character carries it and it just looks a bit fancier. i.e. has a purity seal on it.

No worries!

That's a point. That model was released before the Codex, so the only options the basic datasheet had were Bolt Rife or Stalker Bolt Rifle. However, the fat clip would work very well for the Assault 2 variant, so I would definitely go with that in the absence of any existing model. Whenever they create the multi-part Primaris kits though I am sure they will have some in there. I guess it depends how quickly you want it.

In the Codex it says the Primaris Lieutenant can now take a Master Crafted Stalker Bolt Rifle for 5 points. I think it's worth it :-)

I want it asap, so I might have to do some kitbashing!

You've got it (unsurprisingly) the wrong way around. The one without a scope is the Stalker, according to the information on the page linked above.

"he carries in his right hand a choice of master-crafted bolt rifle or master-crafted stalker pattern bolt rifle, with a box magazine and overcharger"

The box magazine and overcharger are on the non-scoped rifle (overcharger is, I assume, the round thing in place of the scope). Furthermore, the standard bolt rifles we've seen so far have been on the Dark Imperium Intercessors, which all have scopes. Also note, no Assault 2 variant for the Captain so officially neither of the guns represent that.

Personally, I don't get why it's not the other way around. Surely the scope would be the Stalker and the non-scope would be the normal bolt rifle, but it's GW so who knows. Maybe the background on the website entry is wrong and the scope is actually the Stalker while the box magazine makes sense for the Assault 2 variant.

But the Primaris Lieutenant that comes im the Dark Imperium boxset carries what his datasheet describes as an Auto Bolt Rifle, and it looks like the one with the square magazine.

I would LOVE it if that can infact be used to represent the Stalker.

I'll be forced into buying new models if not :-/

Yeh, they're very similar. I'm guessing the difference is the charger? Whatever a charger on a boltgun is. The new Intercessor kit will come with stalker bolt rifles won't it? So if you were getting that kit you could borrow one of those and fancy it up to be master crafted. Or at least wait for that kit to be previewed so we are 100% sure what the Stalker looks like. If they do have box magazines then the Lt from Dark Imperium is very close and you could probably just modify it slightly to make it a stalker.

Going by the White Dwarf preview:

http://www.belloflostsouls.net/2017/07/white-dwarf-primaris-inbound.html

the Stalker has a bigger scope than the standard bolt rifle. And a square magazine instead of a curved one.

Read the Codex and it's all clear now. The Primaris Captain comes with a master-crafted auto bolt rifle or a master-crafted stalker bolt rifle. Given that and the preview posted above, it's clear that what Iron Lord says is correct, the stalker is the larger scope, square mag version of the bolt rifle while the auto bolt rifle is the charger, box mag version. The text on the Primaris Captain product page was confusing (doubly so if you hadn't read the Codex yet, which I hadn't :p) as it lists a bolt rifle and stalker bolt rifle (which it implies has the box mag and charger) but no auto bolt rifle.

Sorry Ishagu, your bope of using the Dark Imperium Lt is dashed.

If you have a spare Mk IV bolter you could probably take the magazine off that and just stick a slightly bigger scope on a regular bolt rifle for a stalker. I made an auto bolt rifle by replacing the magazine with a box one from an old storm bolter.

The scope on the standard bolt rifle vs the stalker (on the top)

The stalker scope is angled at the back, and quite a bit longer.

I'll probably equip any stalkers with the sniper scopes and stick mags from anvil industry to make them clearly distinct without having to buy new primaris.

They also do box mags and foregrips for auto/carbine patterns.

I think it looks good mate. :tu:

If you really wanted to drive the look home just stick a sniper scope on it from the scouts but the straight clip does help distinguish it from a bolt rifle and yours looks just like the Primaris Captain one to be honest.

Well, the model has been made now and Base coated. I've started working on getting it finished.

I basically went off thr Rifle the Captain had, though I see now the scope isn't as big as it should be.

Those Anvil industries scopes are perfect. I'll get a bunch to covert some existing Intercessor I have in future :-D

So, how's this? :-)

You have the artisan look down, but that looks like a regular bolt rifle rather than a Stalker pattern to my untrained eye. I think Stalkers have fatter scopes with scope wiring directly below the mount and/or that short and fat silencer.

I wouldn't worry about it too much, this guy is an HQ after all it's not like you're trying to field 10 lasgun Guardsmen as 2 flamer 2 melta 2 lascannon 4 lasgun.
