I haven't yet tried my Malcador yet, but I've had a look at them on paper and have a few thoughts.

- Malcador Infernus is the best if you have the right fuel (napalm or chem)

- Malcador heavy is finally not a Lord of War so you can run more (1 per heavy slot...no Squadrons)

- Malcador Annihilator suffered a slight nerf due to Demolisher cannons getting extra hits on units of 10+ only

- Malcador Defender is just rude. All 5 heavy bolters can shoot the same target as hull facings mean nothing.

Have yet to see how the Valdor or Minotaur are. Have to wait for my copy of IA to arrive.

Yeah the infernus is the one I like the look of most seems to have good rules and is a awsome looking model

Don't forget the Defender gets +1 to shooting rolls on overwatch and doesn't it also have a demolisher too?

For a line up I am considering after an upcoming deployment is an Infernus and a Defender riding escort on either a Gorgon or Valdor. Havent pointed it out yet. Main cannon on the Valdor is a thing of beauty though, its what either 12 or 14 str with a bonus vs big things or am I thinking another big gun?

Used my Malcador Defender quite a lot in 7th and now it is a heavy support choice it all but guarantees it a place. I have yet to play any 8th so do not know how it is atm, however, i am spending the entire of this weekend playing 8th with a friend so I shall report back at the end of the week!

Isnt the demo 10+ thing an error that got changed to 5+?

And defender, you mean all 7 ^^ (sponson bolters too)

It is for Index Imperium 2, but not in Imperial Armour...don't know how that works.

Im looking at both malcador entries which have the demo cannon, both say 5+ models and upgrade to heavy D6 :smile.:

Neither of the Malcador-tanks are titanic, they're good 'ol Heavy Support.

I recently got my Malcador Infernus, but I've only played one game with it so far.

It's a really cool looking model, and with 2 Heavy Flamer sponsons it's outright scary, and not something you want to charge.

It's flexible with it's fuel-loadout, but I prefer it with flammable fuel. Worse vs heavy armour but much better against multiwound model's like Primaris Marines, Monsters and Vehicles.

It is, however, very expensive (both money and pts-wise :P )
With 2 Heavy Flamer Sponsons and a Heavy Stubber you're looking at ~350 pts, which is the same cost as a Land Raider and/or a Monolith.
Unlike the Land Raider it doesn't have a 2+ save, and unlike the Monolith it doesn't regenerate 1 HP per turn.

350 pts also net's you 3 Hellhounds and some leftover points, and 3 Hellhounds are a better choice if you don't mind spamming:
33 T7 wounds vs 18 T8 wounds.
12" move vs 10" move.
3 Heavy Flamers vs 2 Heavy Flamers.

3 Inferno Cannons (avg 10,5 hits) vs 1 Inferno Gun (av 7 hits, albeit with slightly better Str and AP.)

With that said, Hellhounds are nowhere as cool as Malcadors. ;)

  • 1 month later...

So at the NOVA I joined my buddies in dropping tons of cash on Forgeworold.

I had the choice of Maclador Annihilator or Heavy Tank. I grabbed the latter, and only now realised I may have chosen poorly.

The Heavy Tank is the only version without Grinding Advance (or that can autohit). So it's basically a REALLY expensive, less accurate LR with more wounds.

Has there been any indication this might be an oversight?

I don't see the extra wounds being that much more beneficial. My tanks don't die as often as they're neutralized with assault and being more static isn't going to help. Thoughts?
