Beams
So, if a model does excellent in a game, I tend to name them. Does anyone else do this? So far I have A Cannoness, Sera St. Anthony (Single handedly killed Typhus twice in one game, Meat grinder scenario) An immolator, The Cleansing Flame (Melta'd a flying hive tyrant to death in 7e) Line Breaker, a Repressor, moved 24 inches and flamed 8ish jet bikes to death, then charged and held a 20 man squad of necrons in my first 8e game Thunders Chariot, a Repressor, melted three chimera chasis in my first 8e game And most importantly, Julie. Julie (who cometh back, laden with gasoline) is my Flamer girl. She single handedly killed 7 Genestealers in a 7e kill team game, where we played space hulk tiles as corridors using a random reinforcement arrival by scatter dice. The goal of the mission was to reach the middle of the map and retrieve a randomly generated Relic (it turned out to be the Finger of The Emperor, a devastating Str 1, AP 2 Flamer with the blind and strike down rule... We rolled poorly for strength but great for everything else) Her drill-transport arrived, throwing her into a corridor surrounded by Genestealers. She opened fire, killing three, and then was charged by the remaining two. She burned one in overwatch, killing it, but in 7e you only got one overwatch. She the. Proceeded to beat them in hand to hand combat, earning her a name. She then proceeded to eliminate the rest of the Genestealer infestation, while the rest of her team was torn apart by Scions and Chaos Marines. She was the only survivor, but she proved herself worthy of a name and a unique paint scheme. I'm building three more Repressors, and judging from the previous two's performances, I think I need to come up with some more names for when they prove themselves worthy... Any ideas? Warsmith Aznable
I'm building a second Repressor. On the first I have the Ecclessiarchal/Sororitas "I with wings" symbol in the middle of the plow. I'm going to build the second with the same symbol offset a bit, and they are going to be the I in "FAITH" and "FIRE" respectively. No idea what I'd name the third if I built one. Eddie Orlock
Does anyone else do this?Only for feats that live on in legends that I yammer about to other players. Even then, the names I pick are often fairly silly jokes. Back in early third, buddies Ork warboss had been frustrated by my tactical acumen, being cut down as he was by bolter fire in a dozen consecutive games 'ere he ever got close enough to swing that zogging powerklaw. Thirteenth game, to draw him into a trap I expose my librarian at the bitter edge of his charge range. Like a bull to a red cloth he comes, but my warrior mystic is a deft and expert swordsman, able to strike first. So he did, and pierced the defences but once. Exalting in his triumvate of wounds the warboss crowed that he was too tough for such puny weapons and that my librarian's doom was upon him. As he reached for the dice I stayed his hand and informed him that I was activating the force sword to deftly dispatch the marauding greenskin in one stroke. As I passed the psychic test the warboss howled with rage at being denied one more time. Thusly did Conan the Librarian add to his legends. Servant of Dante
Lol Conan the Librarian. He better not wear any armor on his torso. Just the pauldrons and arms from his PA (he's still a marine, and what's a marine without his pauldrons) :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/337467-named-units/#findComment-4840775 Share on other sites
Eddie Orlock
Lol Conan the Librarian. He better not wear any armor on his torso. Sadly, no. Contender for my favorite figure ever, certainly best space marine librarian sculpt of all time, 'Zeke, but with an old metal jump pack.No idea what I'd name the third if I built one.'Charity'. Freely dispenses the Emperor's mercy to all the heretics who want to come get some. Game once in a tournament with a Space Wolf. The wolf lord had put his faith in terror weapons and had used the threat his vindicator and its strength ten pie-plate to cow his foes into fighting in close quarters where his grey hunters excelled. Captain Jack of the Storm Angles, however, knows a losing play when he sees one and steadfastly refuses to fight his battles on the terms of enemy commanders. Thusly while his tactical teams fought a fighting withdrawal and delaying action against the encroaching grey hunter packs did he boldly lead the ever faithful assault squad of Sgt. Samuels in close order across the open field in a frontal assault on the space wolf vindicator. The wolf lord was astonished at what he thought was absolute folly, never before had anyone dared to engage his terror weapon bereft of cover. And thus he laughed as he turned his assault gun to bear upon Jack and called his buddies over to witness his triumph. So, he grabbed his scatter dice and pitched it for the hit. Promptly rolling an arrow. Without missing a beat he chucked for deviation. When the dice had settled he'd missed cleanly. The Emperor had smiled upon Jack's courage that day and denied the perfidious wolves terror weapon any joy. In that act the game was sealed as Jack and Sam made short work of the wolves support elements while the Storm Angle tactical elements had enough field to work with to favourably engage the grey hunters. Thus did the courageous Captain Jack add to his legends. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/337467-named-units/#findComment-4840874 Share on other sites
Montford
A few months ago I named a few as I played Armageddon. Just last week I decided to name the entire Army. I'm still in early stages though as I need quite a long list of names :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/337467-named-units/#findComment-4841001 Share on other sites
Aqui
All my Superiors have names already, plus a few regular Sisters too from my now stalled Fan Fiction :) My Canoness was the first to get a name. Dr_Ruminahui
The first sister I named was my canoness. This was back when we were using the list in the back of the 3rd edition rules set, which was definitely the weakest rules the sisters have ever used. Those were the days I was glad when my squads broke and ran... because that meant that at least those sisters would survive the battle. Anyway, I named my canoness Antoinette, as the enemies kept handing her her own head in melee. :( Fortunately, my other sisters are less cruelly named.
