Seizeman
It appears that we can indeed not use space marines warlord traits. We were going to use First to the Fray anyway, so it's fine. Gentlemanloser
C&Ped my post from my OR thread. I've had a look at the codex and I'm not too sure now. It states that 'space marine' is sort hand for any adeptus astartes from the codex chapters. And if you look at the Stratagems, Relics and TacticalObjectives sections, the all start with; Space Marine Warlord / Detachment. The Warlord trait section is noticably different where it does not mention a Space Marine Warlord. But an Adeptus Astartes Character. Adeptus Astartes is not shorthand for Space Marine or even Codex Chapter. It's the other way round. If the Warlord Traits were supposed to be restricted to Codex Chapters, then 'Space Marine Character' should/would have been used. Adeptus Astartes is even in bold. It does not seem to be an error that had been overlooked. Probably needs a FAQ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/337678-warlord-traits-discussion-area/page/2/#findComment-4847707 Share on other sites
Valerian
They're still in the Sons of the Primarch section, and we're told how everything in that section works at the very beginning. Gentlemanloser
I know, but the use of adeptus astartes character over space marine character must be intentional for some reason. Especially as every other section uses space marine. Seizeman
I know, but the use of adeptus astartes character over space marine character must be intentional for some reason. Especially as every other section uses space marine. The reason is the "Space marine" keyword does not exist, and saying "space marine character" would technically mean nothing. The other rules refer to "Space marine detachments" which are clearly defined at the start of the section. Gentlemanloser
The codex explains that in all cases space marine is short hand for; Adeptus Astartes keyword for specific codex only chapters. A space marine character is a unit with the character keyword and chapter keyword from those specific chapters. Edit. The relic section uses 'space marine warlord'. RedemptionNL
Yes, but you can't use the entire Sons of the Primarch section if you're not a codex chapter. TheMostGood
It's probably a limitation of language. RAW I don't think there's anything in those books that suggest we can use their rules. RAI it absolutely is not meant for us to use them. Gentlemanloser
Damn. I was looking forward to taking Voldus with the Nemesis Lord trait, for a D4 hammer that doesn't have -1 to hit. I forgot he's got a fixed trait. :( Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/337678-warlord-traits-discussion-area/page/2/#findComment-4851327 Share on other sites
