C&Ped my post from my OR thread.

I've had a look at the codex and I'm not too sure now.

It states that 'space marine' is sort hand for any adeptus astartes from the codex chapters.

And if you look at the Stratagems, Relics and TacticalObjectives sections, the all start with;

Space Marine Warlord / Detachment.

The Warlord trait section is noticably different where it does not mention a Space Marine Warlord.

But an Adeptus Astartes Character.

Adeptus Astartes is not shorthand for Space Marine or even Codex Chapter. It's the other way round.

If the Warlord Traits were supposed to be restricted to Codex Chapters, then 'Space Marine Character' should/would have been used.

Adeptus Astartes is even in bold. It does not seem to be an error that had been overlooked.

Probably needs a FAQ

I know, but the use of adeptus astartes character over space marine character must be intentional for some reason.

Especially as every other section uses space marine.

The reason is the "Space marine" keyword does not exist, and saying "space marine character" would technically mean nothing. The other rules refer to "Space marine detachments" which are clearly defined at the start of the section.

The codex explains that in all cases space marine is short hand for;

Adeptus Astartes keyword for specific codex only chapters.

A space marine character is a unit with the character keyword and chapter keyword from those specific chapters.

Edit.

The relic section uses 'space marine warlord'.
