jerrys
This might be a stupid question, but are you guys doing anything interesting (paint scheme or modeling -wise) such that you can identify the pack leaders? I mean the guy who has an extra attack -- blood claw pack leader, grey hunter pack leader, TDAWG pack leader, etc. Sometimes he'll have a power axe or a combi or something. But e.g. with blood claws I am tempted to leave him with the chainsword for the extra attack (and cheapness). In such cases it's a little hard to find him ("No, he's the guy with the three bars in the woad pattern on his face -- that guy only has two!"). Maybe I could have him keep his helmet on, or put one of those mini-banners on his backpack or something. Just wondering if there is a standard way to do it, or if anybody came up with anything interesting. Guest Triszin
I've been doing the bone totems from wulfen Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/337888-modeling-pack-leaders/#findComment-4851190 Share on other sites
Jarl of Wulfen
My leaders have a wolf cloak back, some sort of power/frost weapon, a gun upgrade, and a wolf helm. MaveriK
In a way, you already answered yourself Jerrys. Do whatever you feel looks good for your army. Do whatever that feels right for your army. At the End of the day, it's your army and you can always inform your opponent which mini is the pack leader. Don't over. Complicate yourself and just enjoy the hobby and the process that comes with it. Valerian
Mine are the ones with the Power Weapons. Simple enough, and there is no reason not to give any/all of your Pack Leaders a Power Weapon of some sort, for just a few extra points. Karhedron
Same here, the power weapon is the distinguishing feature. My Wolf Guard Pack Leaders also have bare heads to distinguish them from the regular pack leaders who keep their helmets on. Hotfuzz
My grey hunters have the wolf helm painted black. In the blood claws it's the guy with the power weapon. I also like using the shoulder pad with the pelt on to distinguise 'officers' Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/337888-modeling-pack-leaders/#findComment-4851467 Share on other sites
sbarnby71
Totally agree with MaeriK, make them stand out how you want. I really don't like this idea that if the model does not have exactly the kit you are saying they armed with on the model, then you can't have it. So what, I have a model with a grenade on his belt, does not mean he has to have a grenade on his kit list. Ok I would draw the line at saying this guy has a plasma cannon, but he's just holding a bolt pistol. I also think that the Wolves would know there battle leaders firstly by displays in their helmets, (squad runes etc) and also by scent or something weird like that, not by the markings on their armour, leave that to the Ultramarines and let their command group get their heads shot off because they wear red helmets or crests. My wolves have almost no uniformity when it comes to paint scheme, at most I will give them the a single shoulder pad or knee pad in the same colour to show a squad. It gives them a rag-tag look which I think would be right, they are feral and pack like and having matching colours schemes is too regimented. Don't be afraid to make up a back story, this guy has black armour or something cause he lost a card game, just makes the whole thing more fun and if your opponent does not see the funny side of it, then they are not the kinda person you want to play with anyway. Can you imagine a single Space Wolf in your army painted pink, cause he lost a drinking game?! I'm off to find some pink paint, I just had a great idea... Kasper_Hawser
for me, the clear distinction between a Wolf guard battle leader from a line marine, is his combi weapon. That is how i differentiate since clearly no other unit but WG and HQs can take them. Rune Priest Jbickb
I give mine a wolf guard shoulder pad and put the grey hunter colors on a leg piece. Also most have combi weapons. And the ones tgat don't have power weapons Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/337888-modeling-pack-leaders/#findComment-4851654 Share on other sites
Akela
All of my Wolf Guard Pack Leaders have those Wolf helmets. My Wolf Priests have them too, but they are to be bone white instead of the black of the Wolf Guard Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/337888-modeling-pack-leaders/#findComment-4852162 Share on other sites
Wintermane
My Wolf Leaders all have some type of icon to trophy on their power pack, with the exception on skyclaws. For them it's a power weapon. Brother Hellion
typically I paint the helments black for my wg so they would stand out among my regular GHs.
