This might be a stupid question, but are you guys doing anything interesting (paint scheme or modeling -wise) such that you can identify the pack leaders? I mean the guy who has an extra attack -- blood claw pack leader, grey hunter pack leader, TDAWG pack leader, etc.

Sometimes he'll have a power axe or a combi or something. But e.g. with blood claws I am tempted to leave him with the chainsword for the extra attack (and cheapness). In such cases it's a little hard to find him ("No, he's the guy with the three bars in the woad pattern on his face -- that guy only has two!").

Maybe I could have him keep his helmet on, or put one of those mini-banners on his backpack or something. Just wondering if there is a standard way to do it, or if anybody came up with anything interesting.

In a way, you already answered yourself Jerrys.

Do whatever you feel looks good for your army. Do whatever that feels right for your army.

At the End of the day, it's your army and you can always inform your opponent which mini is the pack leader. Don't over. Complicate yourself and just enjoy the hobby and the process that comes with it.

Totally agree with MaeriK, make them stand out how you want.

I really don't like this idea that if the model does not have exactly the kit you are saying they armed with on the model, then you can't have it.  So what, I have a model with a grenade on his belt, does not mean he has to have a grenade on his kit list.  Ok I would draw the line at saying this guy has a plasma cannon, but he's just holding a bolt pistol.

I also think that the Wolves would know there battle leaders firstly by displays in their helmets, (squad runes etc) and also by scent or something weird like that, not by the markings on their armour, leave that to the Ultramarines and let their command group get their heads shot off because they wear red helmets or crests.

My wolves have almost no uniformity when it comes to paint scheme, at most I will give them the a single shoulder pad or knee pad in the same colour to show a squad.  It gives them a rag-tag look which I think would be right, they are feral and pack like and having matching colours schemes is too regimented.

Don't be afraid to make up a back story, this guy has black armour or something cause he lost a card game, just makes the whole thing more fun and if your opponent does not see the funny side of it, then they are not the kinda person you want to play with anyway.

Can you imagine a single Space Wolf in your army painted pink, cause he lost a drinking game?!  I'm off to find some pink paint, I just had a great idea...
