Okay, I am going to be frank. I am somewhat plagued by a phobia of everything mini Marines. When the Adeptus Restartes rolled around I was very quick to accept them, but this has the consequence of me starting to dislike the looks of the old Marines. However, right now I see no way around to include hardware like the HS tank and Scouts to the army. Even though it may make sense, I am still rather upset about it.

To be fair, I do not know how a rational discussion can overcome an irrational thought, but hey, maybe it'll help, because it really detracts from the hobby experience :/

Well, that is what I am doing, but to Primaris Marines. My issue aren't Primaris, but the the entire old set. For some reason I started to see this as a finished chapter in the book and hesitate to look back, if that analogy makes more sense.

If you feel that way, I think you should just focus on the Primaris for now since you already know you've accepted them, and once they inevitably become a more complete range in the future, you will have a very healthy head start and solid foundation.

I don't make such a hard separation between Primaris and old marines, so I will happily mix them. If they need some delineation, you can always segregate Primaris by the Chapter Company they're in, or put them in a Primaris only detachment.

I used to think I would be 25mm for life, and swap all future 32mm bases down to 25mm, but I have found that 32mm bases are nice, and I don't mind the mixed base sizes, so I don't mind the mixed heights with Primaris either. One way to really make the old marines last longer is to use more FW parts and models, and to make sure each marine has a nice upright pair of legs from either FW or an assault kit. The old marines look a whole lot better when they have a bit of height and purpose to their stride instead of the ol' tactical field squat.

Perhaps making the two types of marines different Chapters would work for you. Fluff the normstartes as a Chapter that doesn't want Primaris in their own ranks but acknowledges their usefulness, and as such work beside your Primaris Chapter. This keeps the separation.

Cheers,

Jono

IIs it aestethics issue only?

If so, you can buy primaris and arm them with smallmarines weapons. You'd have a consistent army with everything you want.

Truth is I don't know how for example heavy weapons would fit on primaris weapons... Oh, and those scouts and terminators:unsure.:

I think it is less the way they look and more about how they fit in thematically and in terms of fluff. There is also the issue of my work being redundant. I may use all my bits to make an awesome Predator only for GW to release a Primaris battle tank.

Mixing them never bothered me. To me it's like mixing in really old sculpts with newer ones. If they are all painted the size difference doesn't look too bad, and you can always add scenic bases to give the shorter ones more height.

I think there was even a fluff reason for shorter regular Marines, they were men that got turned into Space Marines at a later age instead of as a child. Not sure if it's canon though, and it doesn't apply to Primaris vs Astartes
