evilmittens
I am thinking of painting some pyroclasts, Salamanders. They are resin, from Forge world. Do you need to use a different glue then plastic glue and is painting any different? Thanks for the help! Ovidius Incertus
You'll need super glue (cyanoacrylate) for resin. Plastic glue won't work. There are other types of glues or epoxies you could use, but finding CA glue is easy the world 'round. Whatever paint you use for plastic will work just fine, but make sure to scrub your resin models with a detergent to remove the mold release agent that's on there, which will inhibit paint adhesion. Prepping the resin model for painting might be more involved too. Be careful when you cut bits of the sprue since resin is more likely to snap at those joints. Cut farther back and knock the flash down little by little. Also, be aware that there may be air bubbles in your mini, so you might have some pin holes to fill and sand down. evilmittens
Thanks a ton Ovidius Incertus! I really appreciate the help. I really like the looks of the Pyroclasts, but was not sure if it was a harder thing to do. Thank you so much! Kinstryfe
I'm just going to second the "air bubbles" thing and give a safety reminder. Be VERY careful cutting it, because if you get a bubble your knife can slip very quickly from the sudden lack of resin. It's obvious, I know, but I had to learn the hard way so I like reminding people :) evilmittens 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/337944-basic-newbie-painting-question-re-resin/#findComment-4852702 Share on other sites

evilmittens
Awesome stuff. Hard to mix resin and plastic kits? Like GW model with resin shoulder pads? Thanks for the advice, you guys are awesome! No. It's really easy, you just have to use super-glue. evilmittens 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/337944-basic-newbie-painting-question-re-resin/#findComment-4853181 Share on other sites

Hrolf the Cunning
Some really good tips here. The only things I would add are: Pinning - I find it quite helpful to pin resin models to reinforce joints. Warpage - The other thing you are very likely to encounter is some distortion of the resin models, especially thin things like weapons due to casting/temperature changes during transport. These are usually easy to fix with either warm water/ hair dryer heating and then reshaping - just don't try and bend stuff when cold as it will probably snap. evilmittens 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/337944-basic-newbie-painting-question-re-resin/#findComment-4853870 Share on other sites
