N00BST4R
Hi, just getting into Tau mostly bc I enjoy the models. Is this a plastic or metal kit? Thanks! http://rs37.pbsrc.com/albums/e57/Dinkz4485/IMG_1019_zps1uke6ucf.png?w=480&h=480&fit=clip Edited August 11, 2017 by N00BST4R Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/337965-xv88-broadside-metal-or-plastic-kit/ Share on other sites
El_ojo_y_la_sombra
Is both. Is a plastic crisis model with extra metal pieces to build the broadside. Panzer
Yeah it's the old, smaller and less detailed plastic Crisis with two metal Heavy Rail Rifle bitz. I for one prefer the latest HRR Broadside model by far tho. N00BST4R
I plan on getting both kits, but I like the look of the shoulder mounted rail rifles. I tend to model first and then figure out how to play them later...not the greatest approach, but I enjoy 40k for the modeling. Panzer
Well there won't be any difference for how both models play so figuring out how to play won't be an issue. ^^ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/337965-xv88-broadside-metal-or-plastic-kit/#findComment-4853448 Share on other sites
N00BST4R
I do have one question; are Broadsides worth the points? I've done some reading here about general army lists, and haven't seen them mentioned much. I'm not looking to add more than one in all likelihood, maybe two max. I just don't want something that's better off NOT being in my army period. elmo
I have not used them yet in 8th so cannot really comment on their worth however I do have 6 of the old plastic/metal XV88s and have started to mess around with them - Old style - waiting conversion Converted/repainted one on the left and one using 3rd party railguns/Missile pods on the right Edited August 11, 2017 by elmo Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/337965-xv88-broadside-metal-or-plastic-kit/#findComment-4853503 Share on other sites
N00BST4R
Where did you get those bits at? Really like the look. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/337965-xv88-broadside-metal-or-plastic-kit/#findComment-4853508 Share on other sites

I mean they aren't as bad as Riptides currently, but they get easily outclassed by Commander as pretty much all our Battlesuits. There's hope that'll change with the Codex whenever we may get it (rumours say we are next up after Death Guard but take a grain of salt with it). They are still fine to take in casual games tho. I for one always include my HRR Broadside since I just LOVE the newer model. N00BST4R
I can live with that - I play for cool models, but I do try to make sure they have some level of viability. elmo
Where did you get those bits at? Really like the look. They are from Red Dog minis but they have been updated since I bought them and I can't see the railguns anymore but you could mail him to see if he has any left over... http://www.reddogminis.com/catalog/item/9021373/10276127.htm Edited August 12, 2017 by elmo Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/337965-xv88-broadside-metal-or-plastic-kit/#findComment-4854071 Share on other sites
N00BST4R
Here's my latest conversion from the XV88 Broadside. I basically want all of the weapons on him, shoulder mounting the rail gun; waiting for green stuff to set. The seeker missile won't be equipped though. http://rs37.pbsrc.com/albums/e57/Dinkz4485/IMG_1029_zpsvphnm2c8.jpg?w=480&h=480&fit=clip http://rs37.pbsrc.com/albums/e57/Dinkz4485/IMG_1031_zpsstpi4dpe.jpg?w=480&h=480&fit=clip Kneeling pose - the arm I'm holding and waist / torso aren't glued; a lot won't be until after painting. N00BST4R
This is the converted shoulder-mount rail gun where I added some details to the inside attachment points. I started by sanding the back shoulder area flat filling in the areas with green stuff. Then I used some remaining bits to make it look less bland. The rail gun can't actually fire straight as mounted, but the mount looks more feasible. I think it's cool having it angled up. I could have changed that, but didn't like the look. http://rs37.pbsrc.com/albums/e57/Dinkz4485/IMG_1038_zpszcxfy2pn.jpg?w=480&h=480&fit=clip Edited August 14, 2017 by N00BST4R Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/337965-xv88-broadside-metal-or-plastic-kit/#findComment-4856078 Share on other sites
