Mikey's stuff, mostly 30K Word Bearers - Leviathan done

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, it's been a while since I posted here and my old thread is gone so thought I'd start a new one.

Over the last year I've been painting up my 30K Word Bearers army. It's been great fun and I'm still going, and with 30K taking off in my group I'm looking to amass a large force so I can play a variety of lists.

I'll start with pics of the finished stuff. Apologies for the varying quality on these photos, photography is far from my strong point.

I'll hopefully post regular updates, I've almost finished the Praetor and can't wait to get more work done on the Leviathan Dread.

Cheers,

Mike.

fantastic work on these sir. love the Gal Vorbak, they have a lot of character.

Thanks, glad you like them. I didn't want duplicates of each sculpt in my squad of ten so gave converting a go.

Definitely not my strongest skill but I thought they came out quite well.

Absolutely great work. The contempter, chaplain and zardu really stand out for me. Look forward to seeing more :smile.:

Thanks!

Last night I finished painting Doris, my Leviathan Dreadnought. This is such a great kit, it's super bulky and imposing but also has a lot of detail that I didn't expect. Definitely one of my favourite FW models without a doubt.

The airbrush really helped out with painting this model and I feel a lot more confident about painting larger models such as tanks without them becoming frustrating, trying to blend on large surfaces by brush and just the amount of time I'd need to complete a model larger than a Terminator.

I also got some work done on my Cataphractii Praetor and am almost finished, about 85% done with him, so I should have some more pics in a day or two.

Cheers guys,

Mike.

That dread looks great! I never realised how muchdetail was on the model, especially the back. Are they Decals on the front or free hand? looking forward to seeing whats next

Thanks. I was suprised at the detail too, there are liitle diagnostic screen sorta things with buttons on each side of the hip area at the back, a very cool detail for FW to put it. Just adds another layer to an already impressive sculpt.

The front is done with transfers. Freehanding something like the Word Bearers symbol is waaaay out of my league! :p

The leviathan is awesome, the whole army is for that matter!

Thank you, I appreciate it.

Absolutely fantastic work. Love the weathering and detailing like the mad scribbles on the Spartan.

I could borrow a few ideas...

Thanks man. I just sorta went for it with some white paint. :p

Borrow away. ;)

So I finished my Praetor yesterday. This model was just for a little fun, I doubt I'll actually field it that often and it's far from the most convincing of conversions, but I had the spare parts and fancied painting something a little different.

And with his 'enforcer' :P

Not really sure what I'll be tackling next, I have a Melta support squad built that need doing and I do need to buy some Rhinos, and maybe convert some Veterans.

Least I have some options. :)

Cheers,

Mike.

Hey guys,

It's been a while since I updated this thread and in that time I've painted two new models, a Word Bearers Praetor and a Primaris Captain.

I painted this Praetor as part of a model swap on Instagram and used it as a good excuse to try to push my skills by trying things like NMM.

Pretty happy with how it turned out, especially the NMM on the silver.

This is the 2nd Captain of The Abyss Watchers, my new homegrown Chapter that makes quite a few references to one of my favourite games, Dark Souls.

My girlfriend actually suggested the armour colour as she really likes Sotek green, and fresh from painting the above Praetor I thought I'd have another go at NMM shiny armour but decided to spend less time on other areas so the scheme wouldn't take too long to paint.

Really happy with how it turned out and I'm very excited to get the army up and running.

@Lexington The Leviathan I did a little differently and mostly by airbrush.

I based it with a 50/50 mix of black and Mephiston red, then airbrushed on Mephiston black for the first layer, then airbrushed Evil Sunz scralet for the next.

I painted really thinned black into the recesses of all the pannels and edge highlighted the red with a 70/30 mix of Evil Sunz scarlet and Kislev flesh.

Hope that is useful.

Holy crap, those latest 2 models are something else. The level of detail on both is astounding! the galaxy schenes on the word bearer is crazy good and the metalic partes really stand out. The colour on the 2nd figure is extremely eye catching, loving the colour of the armour

@Fire golem- Thanks, glad you like the NMM.

@Lordvelype- It is indeed. ;)

@Sagentus- Thank you for the kind words, I really appreciate it and it definitely gives me more motivation to pait more. :)

@Hushrong-Thanks! I was originally going to paint Zardu grey but hadn'y seen him painted in red so thought I'd give it a go.

I'm currently working on batch painting some Intercessors for The Abyss watchers so should have an update soon. I'm also itching to get going with my Terminator Chaplain and Xiphon for my Bearers too.
