As some of you probably know I have been here on the BnC fr a while now, and my focus has always been the Space Wolves, whether it be in 40K or 30K..

 

More recently I have been working on my 30K force, which was always meant to be compatible for use in 40K.  This has nt changed much, however I am looking forward to working on Heresy HQ units. I m hoping that they can inject a little flavour to my army. For a long while nobody knew how the Wolves would look in the 31st millennium so I kept them pretty basic, and used the story "Wolf at the Doors" as my inspiration, where the Wolves set aside many of their pelts trinkets etc in favour of a more professional look.

 

Anyhoo the reason you are here and some advice is sought for a lot of this

Moritat pretty much done bar the cabling and filling on the left hip. Need to add some wolf bits to his knee pad

Hvarl is slowly getting there. I think he is starting to look a little top heavy and not sure about the twin drums on his HB. Really need some guidance on where to go wit this one. Enthusiasm is cooling off.

Was originally going to go with caster of Runes, but thinking Speaker of the dead. Dropped the spear and will o with crozius or axe... Thoughts?? Needs a pelt or 2 maybe swap head for Ulriks or even try to do a chop job and apply the helm of Russ. Need ideas for left arm!!

Thegn/ Praetor to lead Varagyr. Always loved the imagery of the Varagyr swathed in pelts and carrying great harpoon/spears. So decided to pinch this from the Priest. Kept him similarly armed to the Varagyr, but may strap a combi-weapon to his side for versatility.. Thoughts?

Thegn for the tartaros. Do I ditche the banner idea and leave the pose so he is eting readyto smash someone or keep him as a bnner bearer so he could be a commad squad member. He has Polux's combi melta, but the banner stops me giving hi a chain fist (could change to claw though).

Tartaros squad are plasma blaster and chainfist + 3x combi-melta and chainFist or 3x combi plasma and chain fist

What do you think?

Hi Bjorn.

 

The terminators are Death Guard cataphractii base with B@C lightning claws where the blight launchers should be.

 

I still need to do some pelts to camo up the joins and alter the silhouette slightly.

 

The thegn is the legion praetor with a death guard power fist. The spear is from the ltd ed vexillary right hand with the Ultra banner top removed. The power section is from molocs spear and the tip is from the custodian bikers lance.

Had an idea today while snoozing on the helicopter ride to work!

I hate the front doors on the Mastodon, plus my hack job to get them to shut looks awful.

 

So maybe put a Mastodon door shaped plate over the front, leaving slots for the melta. I could leave it as a thin plate, so the frag launchers could fire throug it raining death on the enemy, or I could make it and fill the gaps so it is a huge solid door.

 

Maybe make it look like the doors to Valhalla in Vikings or something similar like an image of Yggdrasill?

Now FW have gone for a very different aesthetic for fliers which is a bit more "austere" ad =it is down mainly to the Wolves not liking fliers so much.

 

 

 

I have a Fire Raptor, Lightning and Storm Eagle to paint up, so do I stick with te bolder style of knot work design, or bring it more in line with FW's vision?

 

Genuinely conflicted over this.

I love your conversions, they all look really 'natural' like that's how the model is supposed to look. Going to be one very characterful army when you're done.

As for your freehand knotwork, I think it looks great and I think you should stick with it rather than following FW's example because, just like your conversions, it's your own style and your own mark on your army. Individuality and uniqueness are king for Space Wolves right?

For the Mastodon, I did make a dogs dinner of the front-end as I rushed to get it done. I made a lot of mistakes with it as I didn't think through where a lot of the issues were. I will think through trimming the doors flat, as I had originally thought to use the ridges on the door to hold the plates in place.

 

Yggdrasil is out, as it is the tree of life, but I had been envisioning something along the lines of this:

 

 

 

I quite like the idea of these being the doors to Valhalla, which would release the warriors to make war on their foes.

 

If going for something more aggressive, what about this?

 

 

However I have wanted to run something like this up the front side to look like a long ship

 

 

However I could do the dragon head on both sides of the door facing each other so they made a "prow" with the doors open?

 

As for the Fire Raptor, I really like FW's gritty look. I will stick with the knot work, but maybe dial the gold back and give it more of an edge.

Sorry for being gone so long. Change of job and wife expecting a baby sometimes does that.

 

Anyways, this is not quite 30K related, but on the SW forum we are putting a little model collection together for a kid called Brand.

 

He loves SWs but not in the traditional baby-blue colours.

I got part way through my dreads and ad the bright idea of doing my own decal designs to try and speed things up.

 

Well it has been a bit of a disaster. The ink on the decal has disappeared and I severely underestimated how the dark grey would "absorb" the colour

To get over the annoyance of the decals and potentially ruining my leviathans

 

Getting the basic colours down on Brands Wolf Guard. Will shorten the hammer later and make him look like he is holding halfway down the haft.

Pads, shield and backpack are blu-tacked on. Not sure about the steel on the faceplate, might go to black or grey.

Awesome work dude. Some lovely use of kits to create a flavourful Force. The iron warrior helm on the wolf guard looks great really nice use of parts. Regarding your struggles with Red Blade in your earlier posts you might find adding something like the cloak from the death wing kit that attaches on the lower back then adding some pelt to it may help balance out the lower part of the mini. Keep up the great work!

I will have a chat with my friend Dave and see if he has anything like that kicking about. It is a good idea.

 

Might also see how a HB drum looks on his arm instead of the twin mini drums from the blight launcher. If not may steal your idea from, the assault cannon/HB conversion you used on your Hvarl model.

I am still in 2 minds over the Leviathan. Something to me feels a little bit off.

Considering changing the gold on the shield to steel or silver as I am not sure if it is too much bling. I am also not sure what to do with the right shoulder. Go black like the left knee, or do it cream like the other, or a combination of both and do like a long Fang or Wolf Guard marking. I am happy how the transfer turned out, but wish I had filed off the rivets below. Being offshore I cannot use the mirosol and microset, so I had to reply on getting it smoothed down myself.

Maybe it will disappear under the weathering.

I am also thinking of darkening the red stripes to match up to the wolf symbol as I am not sure if the 2 reds a clashing a little.
