Hvarl.

 

I am looking at axes for him. I want it to be a big axe, as it is called Hearth Splitter

 

So I looked at an old slayer axe from the fantasy dwarf range

Is it too big?

 

I think it looks good, size is ok (for a game like 40k at least), but could still use some mold-line filing.

I gt the mold lines :D

 

Did a bit of changing around, tried mounting the heavy bolster on the side of the fist ala grey knights, but I did nt have the bits to make it work.

 

Did way with the power fist and shortened the arm slightly.... Have given up on imagining Hvarl using the axe in 2 hands (for now).

Also messed with the rune priest, gonna add some tubing and a hood, maybe even a wolf head, give him a really feral aspect

Overall good, but the axe really does still look a bit big to be wielded in one hand.

You're making good progress. The Captain's new left arm looks more natural with the heavy bolter.

Was a wee bit heavy handed with the sponge, but for now I will call this done. Will stain the glass and do chipping round the cockpit when I get home (maybe even design and preint some decals too)

Glad you like them. Have been working on the wolf kin and will update with other news shortly, but this is where I am at.

 

Stopped working on the black wolf to get the white wolf done to the same point. Allowing me to do bits common to both at the same time :)

 

Gave the black wolf an initial wash of drakenhof in the deepest recesses before a mix of oiled earth and black wash was done across the model.

 

Both in need of final highlights and on to details

So thats me done!! There are a good few mistakes still to fix.

Like I ran out of black for doing the eyes and I missed a little decoration on Freki as it blended quite well with the fur.

 

All things I can fix when I get home. Along with attaching them properly to their bases

 

When I get home I can add the missing obelisk, T-son and arm that I forgot to pack also :D

@Dantay VI glad the input helped bud. I really struggled with getting a good fur. These two look brilliant. I wasn’t sold on them when I picked up Russ but I want to have a stab at them now. FW thanks you for more of my money sir.

I am merrily ploughing along with some of my backlog.

 

Tried using my airbrush for the first time in about a year. Tried out the sparmax 4 and it is a lovely brush, but with bigger nozzle/ needle size, I am having to relearn what pressures to use etc...

This is the first batch after spray and a wash. The administratum grey went glossy for some reason and the wash wouldn't hold. Put a second coat on and now it is a bit darker than expected. I will do some highlights and see if it will even out. Am on the rig now, so no more airbrush for a few weeks.

 

Also been messing around with these 2, need a little more wolfing especially the librarian... But do not want to go full-wolf on them.

 

Any ideas??

I thought of diversifying the new models' appearance by replacing the rock under their left foot, with severed heads or broken gears. That may be more trouble than it's worth, and such decorations better fitted to the bases instead.

Trying out a variation of your grey ecipe, burt still learning the pin washing part. Colours are just blocked in on everything else for now for ideas.

Do I run the gold from the eyes right around the helm?

First off, where did that helm come from?

Secondly, I think the gold around the eyes would look better if there was an edging around the eye lenses. The helmet looks very "Viking" to me and I think you are on the right track.

With just a little bit of a GS edge around the eyes, then you'd have something to bring out the gold on.
