Voted emps gift as i never got to read that

Unfamiliar with the 'world that was' so voted at random - that kind of made me think though why haven't i ever read the traditional warhammer stuff? I've always liked the setting much as i liked wh40k but never read any material

So can someone give me some recommendations on a level with eisenhorn of 40k etc

I was really torn on what to vote for since I have all of them already. Went with Space Marine, even though I already have two editions of it already(!), as I feel it is only right that one of the oldest books should get the 20 year celebration treatment. I hope that whichever ones win they get the full HB treatment.

Imagine Space Marine as a full audio drama!

I would love to see Zavant in soft calf skin leather with bass clasps?? Too much? I think not.

Ah, Space Marine . . .

I'm not sure which I enjoyed more, the novel or this review

That review is pretty great :D makes me all the more interested in all the weird quirkiness that went on in early 40K fiction.

Riders of the Dead is also really good. Has action, but a lot is about how the Chaos tribes work and what it's like to get captured by one. Can't give away more than that, but read it. It's vintage Abnett and one of the better WHFB books

Without any disrespect to Bowden (whose Emperors gift is the less 'good' book he ever written) and Abnett  (whose Brothers of the Snake  is his worst novel) -

'Lord of the night' totally deserve a reprint.

And for the WFB we need Zavant.

Again Rennie wrote a truly brilliant novel (through with style, structure and prose issues). It is one of the best, through definitely old by now.

Here at least we have a contender in my opinion - cause 'Riders of the dead' is also a brilliant novel.

It's a long time since I read Lord of Night, and I wasn't as much of a 40k Fanboy then as I am now, but I remember it being not very good.

I liked Si Spurriers Crossed series which is the  only other work of his I've read.

It wasn't good? Just curious why.

Gotta second Cleanse and Purify, Riders of the Dead is primo Abnett. Maybe not as good as Eisenhorn but as good as the better Gaunt's Ghosts books. It's one of the best low-key depictions of chaos anywhere.

True - but Zavant did a much better job. Problem with Zavant not a lot of fans read it. Plus Rennie left early and Abnett has a 'big' name

The winners have just been announced.

Ok - I could scarcely believe in Drachenfels. We all wish to be young again.

But Brothers of the Snake - REALLY? The worst Abnett novel ever with most non-Astartes Space Marines? roll eyes :teehee:

Opinion =/= fact

To be fair, Abnett's worst book is still better than the best by some other authors.

Not Going tO Trash anyOne in particular on that.
