The other game played on my new board. I decided to trial the GMNDK and the Doomglaive this time round and hooo boy, I doubt I'll ever run without a GMNDK again.

GK
GMNDK

2 x 5 strike knights

Doomglaive

2 x 5 Paladins

Stormraven

Tau

2 x 15 Firewarriors

Ethereal
Railgun Broadside

Missile Broadside

Ghost Keel with two stealth drones

Devilfish

4 fusion blaster Crisis Suits (i think)

2 sets of Breachers

Coldstar suit

Possibly other stuff

This is actually fairly typical of my armies. Normally I'd have Draigo instead of the GMNDK, but other than that it's pretty much how I roll with the GK. Love me some Paladins and heavy vehicles.

Turn 1.

Taught my opponent a valuable lesson about leaving me with enough space behind his HQ to drop the Stormraven in and blew his Ethereal and the Missile suit to dustbunnies. Meanwhile the Deepstriking paladins fluffed their charge against the devilfish, but the GMNDK achieved his agains tthe first unit of Firewarriors, and proceeded to kill five of them outright. Sanctuary is awesome

My strike knights simply sat on objectives.

During his turn he deep struck his fusion blaster suits and killed two and a half Paladins from the squad that fluffed his deep strike, while the Breachers accounted for another one before charging the Paladins. Fortunately breachers are much better at shooting than they are at close combat. His coldstar deep struck in and nailed an entire squad of strike knights bar the hammer dude.

Turn 2
The doomglaive and Paladins disembarked from the Raven which dropped into hover to avoid flying off the board, and the paladins made a beeline for the devilfish while the Doomglaive engaged the Ghostkeel. The GMNDK wiped out the last couple of firewarriors in squad A and then made for squad B. His shooting proved singularly ineffective agains tthe Ghostkeel. On the charge my doomglaive took a double six from the Ghostkeel's melta equivalent and survived by the skin of his teeth due to unyielding ancient before butchering the Ghostkeel in a single turn of CC.

The RailSide and assorted shooting nailed 10 wounds onto the Stormraven (which I had completely forgotten to shoot) and I lost the second squad of strike knights to the Coldstar suit. Meanwhile the Paladins wiped out one of te Breacher squads and got surrounded for their next turn.

Turn 3

The GMNDK finishes off his second squad of firewarriors and has yet to take a single wound as he moves towards the Raiside. Meanwhile the Paladins kill the Devilfish but are left well out of position to do anything useful for a while. The other squad eats a lot of firepower during overwatch and I'm down to the hammerguy.

During his turn he repositions but doesn't manage to hurt the GMNDK with the Railside, meanwhile the Coldstar and the Plasma suits wipe the Doomglaive off the map and take out the Stormraven.

Turn 4

Smite kills the last stealth drone, the GMNDK kills the Railside and everything converges on the remaining Tau units. I'm up by half a dozen victory points and after a terrible objective draw my opponent conceds as he's down to 4 crisis suits and a Coldstar.

Thoughts. Codex armies versus non-codex armies is almost unfair. I simply had so many more options than he did and I'm pretty sure he didn't have what'sn considered an optimised Tau list.

The GMNDK is a beast, but I'm not sold on his ranged options. He basically spent every turn but half of one in CC, meaning the 70 points worth of Psilences and Psycannons were essentially wasted. He is so good at CC that I doubt I'll ever field a 1500 point army without him again. The Doomglaive continues to impress, especially when dropped out of a Stormraven and guaranteeing his charge. I could have deployed and GoI'd him, but I fail far more 9 inch charges than I pass at, even with rerolls due to CP's or FttF

I think I'm zeroing in on what will be my normal list. for 1500 point games. This combo worked really well. 7-1 in 8th with GK

Sounds juicy!! How do you feel tau are this edition? I found them to be quite nasty in 7th, haven't had the opportunity to play them in 8th yet!

Solid victory though! What faction gave you your only lose so far??

I think Tau lack proper synergy and 4+ ballistic skill in an all shooting army is sad. I also think it's too hard to reduce that using drones at the moment. Having said that, they pack a lot of firepower. Barring some unfortunate dice rolls the fusion suits and breachers should have mullered the Paladins that got caught in the open.

I really look forward to them getting a codex as I think they'll be proper nasty

As for my one loss, that was Eldar who imo are a great TAC army even without a codex

As a Tau player I can confirm the list isn't optimized at all. As for the state of Tau, it's sad. But enough of that, this is the power armor forum.

Gratz on the win, well done.

Fair enough, the list was built by a brand new player in the dying days of seventh, so I'm not surprised to hear that.

Thank you though

Battlesuits are powered armor.

Just saying.

SJ

Point for Jeffersonian I think

Nice list, cant wait to try out the NDKGM as soon as possible :D

Being a Tau Player myself (just started GK some month ago) it is really sad how they perform with "balanced" lists at the moment. As tau you have to spam commanders like :cuss. You Need at least one HQ detachment with three shocking Fusion commanders :D
