Hey everyone,

So I just got into 8th edition a few months ago for the first time and still currently painting up my army. I really love the look of the veterans and plan to paint them after my DW Knights. Anyways, I was wondering what is everyone's opinion on a efficient gear setup for veterans. Was either leaning towards full close combat or full ranged. Either way I was thinking to throw them into a razorback/rhino to help with mobility.

 Ideas or Suggestions? Thanks!

My suggestion would be to hold on for the Codex to come out before committing to anything. DA veterans were always difficult to get right because there were always something that did what they do, better. So if you can wait, after the codex comes out you can get a better idea.

yea im kind of hoping they get a really good associated stratagem. id really like that, or maybe they finally let us buy them jump packs. that would be nice

Doubtful about jump packs, as they don't come in the box, so no official models. But yes, it would be great.

To be fair, I use them as sergeants for my tacticals. They never were worth it in 7th. I do have some new boxes, waiting to be weaponised, once our codex drops though!

games workshop sells jump packs stand alone, and it could be used as an excuse to overhaul the dated kit. lets be honest that box is from like 5th edition

If I had a far, far, larger budget and far, far more time than I do, I would love to have an entire army of the DA Veteran models. They would count as Tacs, ASM, Devs, everything.

Arguably fluffy, but damn would it look cool.

i had a listed drafted up the second our codex dropped for a fun little semi practical list. it was ezekiel and cypher in and unbound dark angels list backed by deathwing knights and dark angels veterans

On a different note, I think Veterans synergize with Azrael and a Dark Shroud. I mean, both of those are so good that they work with everything, but with Vets you don't have to feel like you're holding your RW back or that your 3++ termies are "wasted" with Azzy's Lion Helm.

I would strongly consider magnetizing. I've been caught out twice.

I'm a very slow painter and I made my command squad in 6th with a banner of devastation bolt guns and a LR crusader to make the most of the banner of devistation only for it to be removed in 7th before I finished them.

Same with my assault squad and two flamers that are now out of range when they drop in. I haven't even painted the Sargent yet.

I know your pain man, I converted and painted a Command squad with all grav, stormshields, banner and apothecary (for those damn riptides). Now my squad is basicly worthless.

I don't think vets will have their statline changed too much, but I really hope for some cool special rules.

My personal wishlisting -- make them a "lieuitenant" squad so to speak. How awesome would it be if we can assign our vets to tactical squads during the deployment. You want to add extra melee-punch to that squad -- no problem, assign them a vet with a fist. Want some extra antitank boost -- some melta guys on the way. Allowing them to have jump packs would make a huge change -- combi-bolters + melee weapon (fist, sword, or even good ol' chainsword, why not).

Lion is a master tactician after all. Giving extra boost with company vets would make sense, as DA doesn't have sternguard and vanguard.

We do have squads of Lts, it's called the Deathwing Knights. Masters in training. Lts are just Captains/Masters in training. Company vets are Deathwing and squad Sgts in training. So really they should have the same stats and equipment as a Squad Sgt. Same points as well.

DAs could do with a LT equivilant. I'm having to use a Primaris LT to fill my 4th HQ squad.
