Hi all, recently added a Stormraven to my army, mainly with the objective of deploying Helbrecht, a Castellan with relic helm, 2 assorted Crusader 5 man squads and a Relic Leviathan Dreadnought with double grav bombard deep behind enemy lines - however I've just hit upon a big flaw in my plan being that you need to deploy max 3 inches away from the transport unit or its base in the case of a Stormraven - Leviathans however are mounted on 80mm bases to accommodate their huge backsides, unfortunately about 4mm larger than 3 inches, so am I correct in believing if I attempted to disembark from the Stormraven it will immediately be destroyed for failing to deploy within 3?

May have to try and squeeze him onto a 60mm...

It has both the <CHAPTER> and <DREADNOUGHT> keywords on its datasheet so theoretically it works. However if the base is too big to be wholly deployed within 3 inches of it, it can't be deployed. And putting it on a smaller base is generally frowned upon and probably not allowed in most tournaments.

So if I read your post correctly you foresee a problem with an 80mm base fitting WITHIN the three inches?  If that is correct, the closest side of the base has to be three inches away from the transport not the entire base within the three inches.

A Thunderhawk Transporter could never carry any vehicle if it had to disembark within three inches.

A visual, top is correct, bottom is (I think) what you're concerned about.

The rulebook says you must disembark [within 3"] :

When a unit disembarks, set it up on the battlefield so that all of
its models are within 3" of the transport and not within 1" of any
enemy models – any disembarking model that cannot be set up in
this way is slain.

The FaQ to the rulebok further clarifies :

Q: Can you clarify what the difference is between ‘wholly within’
and ‘within’ for rules purposes?

A: If a rule says it affects units/models that are ‘wholly
within’ then it only applies if the entire unit/model is
within. If it just says ‘within’, however, then it applies so
long as any part of the unit/model is within.
For example, units gain the benefit of cover if every
model in the unit is either on or within terrain. So long
as all the models in that unit are either on or partially
within the terrain, they gain the benefit of cover.

Your leviathan is therefore fine as long as part of it's base is within 3".

I don't think you can transport a Leviathan using a Stormraven, tbh ^^

Nope, any Dreadnought except the Primaris Redemptor is fine.

Thanks for the clarification chaps - that's very interesting that you only need part of the base within 3" - I've been playing this wrong with my infantry as well which can technically gain another inch (marines on big bases) I assumed they needed to be within the 3" limit.
